How to Apply to Study at UniKL
Updated
To apply to UniKL, start from the official website unikl.edu.my and use the Apply Now entry point. Before you begin, decide which admission path fits you: Undergraduate Admission if you are applying with SPM or equivalent results, or Postgraduate Admission if you are applying for a postgraduate programme. The site also provides Update SPM Results and Check Application Status functions, so you can update your results after applying and track your application progress.
Choose the right admission path
UniKL separates its admissions by study level. Use the table below to identify the correct starting point.
| Your situation | Where to start on unikl.edu.my |
|---|---|
| Applying for a bachelor's degree or diploma with SPM or equivalent results | Undergraduate Admission |
| Applying for a master's or PhD programme | Postgraduate Admission |
| Looking for flexible or open distance learning (ODL) study options | Flexible Education or ODL Programme |
| An international or exchange student | Exchange Mobility Programme (check eligibility with UniKL) |
If you are unsure which category applies to you, review the programme pages under Our Programmes first, then return to the matching admission section.
Step-by-step application process
- Check your programme and campus. UniKL operates 12 campuses across Malaysia, and each institute has its own specialisation. The site lists campuses including UniKL BMI, MIIT, RCMP, MIMET, MSI, MESTECH, MFI, MIDI, MICET, MITEC, MIAT and BIS. Confirm that your chosen programme is offered at the campus you can attend.
- Prepare your documents. For undergraduate entry, your SPM results are the key academic record. Have your results and personal details ready before you open the application form.
- Click Apply Now. This is the main application entry point on the homepage. Follow the form through to submission.
- Update your SPM results if needed. If you applied before your results were released, or your results changed, use Update SPM Results on the site so your application reflects your latest grades.
- Check your application status. Use Check Application Status to see where your application stands. Keep your application reference or login details safe so you can return to this page.
Expected result: after submitting, you should be able to see your application recorded via Check Application Status. If the status page does not recognise your details, re-check the information you entered before contacting UniKL.
What to confirm before you submit
- Entry requirements for your specific programme. The homepage does not list minimum grades per programme, so check the individual programme page under Our Programmes.
- Campus location and specialisation. Because each institute focuses on a different field, the same programme name may not be available everywhere.
- Fees and intake dates. These details are not stated on the homepage; confirm them with the relevant admission section or UniKL directly.
- Postgraduate vs undergraduate forms. Submitting through the wrong path can delay your application, so choose the section that matches your qualification level.
Common sticking points
- Applying before SPM results are out. Use the Update SPM Results function once your results are released rather than starting a new application.
- Losing track of your application. Bookmark Check Application Status and keep any reference number you receive.
- Assuming one campus fits all. With 12 campuses and one-institute-one-specialisation structure, confirm your programme's campus before applying.
- International applicants. The Exchange Mobility Programme is listed separately; check with UniKL whether your situation should go through the standard admission path instead.
After you apply
UniKL's site also links to Research, Facilities, Find Experts and Campus Lifestyle pages. These are useful for comparing campuses and understanding student life while your application is being processed, but they are not part of the application itself. For any status or document issue that Check Application Status cannot resolve, contact UniKL through the details on the official site.
