How to Book a Study Room or Sign Up for DMU Library Workshops and Appointments

Updated

You can book a study space and sign up for skills support directly from the DMU LibGuides home page at library.dmu.ac.uk. The Book a Study Room link sits under "Spaces & Places," while Workshops, Drop-Ins, Appointments sits under "Skills & Assignments." Both are open to DMU students and staff, and the page also lists Studiosity and LinkedIn Learning as additional learning support. Exact session times, room limits, and booking quotas are not shown on the home page, so check each linked service for current availability.

Booking a study room

  1. Go to library.dmu.ac.uk.
  2. Find the Spaces & Places section.
  3. Select Book a Study Room.
  4. Choose your date, time, and room, then confirm the booking.

The same section also links to Our Study Spaces, DMU Museum, Leisure Reading Collection, Library Trails, and Special Collections & Archives, so you can check what kind of space fits your task before booking. Expect the booking system itself to show how far ahead you can reserve and how long a slot lasts.

Workshops, drop-ins, and appointments

The Skills & Assignments section is the entry point for taught sessions and one-to-one help:

  • Workshops, Drop-Ins, Appointments — the main route to skills sessions and personalised support.
  • Studiosity — additional study help, described on the page as an AI Studiosity Service.
  • LinkedIn Learning — self-paced digital and professional skills courses.
  • Subject Guides and Using Generative AI — guidance tied to your subject and to AI use in academic work.

A news item on the home page states: "Improve your confidence for your next assessment, Sign up for our workshops now," confirming that workshop sign-up is the intended action for assessment preparation.

What each type of support is for

Support Best for How to access
Book a Study Room Individual or group study space Spaces & Places → Book a Study Room
Workshops Skills, assignments, and digital tools in a group setting Skills & Assignments → Workshops, Drop-Ins, Appointments

If you are not a standard on-campus student

The home page has an I am … menu with tailored entries for DMU London Student, Dubai Student, International Student, New Student, Partner Student, Student studying off campus, Researcher, Visitor, Former DMU Student, DMU Staff Member, and Work Experience. Use that menu first, because off-campus, international, and research users may see different routes to the same booking and workshop links.

Common sticking points

  • Can't find the booking link: it is under "Spaces & Places," not under "Using the Library."
  • Not sure which session to pick: start with "Workshops, Drop-Ins, Appointments" and use a drop-in if you only have a quick question.
  • Need help outside a workshop: check JustAsk! & FAQs or contact [email protected], or call 0116 257 7042.
  • Accessibility needs: the Support Resources section includes Assistive Technology and Library Disability Services.
