How to Browse and Order from SparkFun Electronics

Updated

You can browse SparkFun's full catalog by category or through its "Latest & Greatest" product feed, add items to your cart, compare or wish-list them, and check stock status before checkout. Most orders over $100 qualify for free domestic shipping, but individual product pages and the cart are where you confirm price, availability, and final shipping terms.

Start with the catalog structure

SparkFun organizes the store around two entry points:

  • Shop All Categories / Browse Top Electronics Categories — the full catalog, grouped by category. Use this when you know roughly what you need (sensors, microcontrollers, displays, breakouts) but not the exact part.
  • Our Latest & Greatest Products / New Releases — a curated feed of new and featured items. Use this when you want to see what's current or are exploring rather than searching for a specific part.

The homepage also surfaces a few highlighted products and a "Fan Favorite" and "Top Seller" slot, which are useful shortcuts but not a substitute for category browsing if you have a specific requirement.

Read a product listing before you commit

Each product card on the homepage feed shows the same fields, so you can compare items at a glance:

Field What it tells you
Product name and variant Exact part, including interface type (e.g., Qwiic) and sensor model
Price Listed price, plus a lower "as low as" price
Stock status "In stock" or "Backorder"
Actions Add to Cart, Compare, Add to Wish List

Examples from the current feed: the SparkFun CO2 Sensor – STCC4/SHT40 (Qwiic) is listed at $30.95 (as low as $26.31) and in stock; the SparkFun Non-Invasive Current Sensor Kit is $28.95 (as low as $24.61) but on backorder; the SparkFun Non-Invasive Current Sensor – ADE7953 (Qwiic) is $19.95 (as low as $16.96) and in stock.

The "as low as" price signals a quantity discount, so the unit price you pay depends on how many you order. Confirm the actual price in the cart.

Use Compare and Wish List to narrow choices

When two parts look similar — for example, the ADE7953 current sensor board versus the full current sensor kit — add both to Compare to see their attributes side by side. Use Add to Wish List to park items you're not ready to buy. This is the practical way to decide between a bare breakout and a kit that includes the split-core transformer.

Check stock status and plan around backorders

Stock status appears on every product card:

  • In stock — available to ship now.
  • Backorder — not currently available; you can still order, but expect a delay.

If your project has a deadline, filter your choices toward in-stock items. The current sensor kit, for instance, is on backorder while its ADE7953 board and the 100A split-core transformer are in stock — so you can assemble an equivalent setup from in-stock parts if timing matters.

Add to cart and review shipping

  1. Click Add to Cart on each product you want.
  2. Open My Cart (linked from the site header) to review items, quantities, and the discounted unit prices.
  3. Confirm your order total against the shipping threshold: free domestic shipping on most orders over $100. "Most orders" means some exclusions may apply, so verify the shipping charge shown at checkout rather than assuming it's free.

The cart is also where quantity breaks take effect, so adjust quantities there rather than guessing from the "as low as" figure.

A worked example

Suppose you want to monitor AC current without cutting into a circuit. You'd browse the current-sensing category, compare the Non-Invasive Current Sensor – ADE7953 (Qwiic) at $19.95 with the Non-Invasive Current Sensor Kit at $28.95, note the kit is on backorder, and check whether the kit's contents (including the Split-Core Current Transformer – 100A to 50mA at $10.95) can be bought separately. Buying the board and transformer individually comes to $30.90 — slightly more than the kit — so the kit is the better value if you can wait, and the separate parts are the better choice if you need it now.

Common sticking points

  • "As low as" is not the price you'll pay for one unit. It reflects a volume discount; check the cart.
  • Backorder items still accept orders but ship later — don't assume they're unavailable.
  • Free shipping is a threshold, not a guarantee. It applies to "most orders over $100" domestically; confirm at checkout.
  • Qwiic labeling matters. Products marked Qwiic use that connector ecosystem, so check compatibility with your board before ordering.
