How to Browse Cars by Type, Make, and Popular Models on Drive

Updated

Drive (drive.co.uk) lets you start a used-car search in three main ways: by car type, by make, or by popular model. You can also search any make and model directly. The site lists quality-checked used vehicles from selected dealers across the UK, alongside new lease offers from Volkswagen Financial Services, so the same browse tools cover both buying and leasing.

Browse by car type

The "Browse by car type" section groups vehicles by body style and drivetrain rather than by brand. The types listed on the page are:

  • Electric
  • SUV
  • Automatic
  • Hatchback
  • Estate
  • Vans
  • 7 Seaters
  • MPV

Selecting one of these takes you to a filtered set of vehicles in that category. This is the fastest route if you know the shape or fuel type you want but have no brand preference — for example, if you need a 7-seater for a larger family, or an automatic for mostly town driving.

Browse by make

The "Most popular makes on Drive" section lists brands you can jump straight into. The makes shown are:

Group Makes
Volkswagen Group brands Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, Škoda, Volkswagen Commercial, CUPRA, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini
Other popular makes Aston Martin, BMW, Citroen, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Land Rover, Mercedes, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, Toyota, Vauxhall, Volvo

A "See more brands" link expands the list beyond those shown. Choosing a make narrows the results to that manufacturer, which is useful when you already know you want, say, a Ford or a Kia and only need to compare models and trims within it.

Browse popular models

"Popular Cars for Sale" lists specific models that are frequently viewed or listed on the site:

  • Volkswagen Polo
  • Volkswagen Golf
  • Skoda Fabia
  • Volkswagen Tiguan
  • CUPRA Formentor
  • Skoda Kodiaq
  • Audi A1
  • Volkswagen ID.3
  • Audi A3
  • SEAT Arona
  • Volkswagen Transporter
  • SEAT Ibiza

Clicking a model takes you to listings for that car. This is the most direct route when you have already shortlisted a model and want to see what is available, compare prices, or check monthly finance figures.

Search any make and model

At the bottom of the page there are "Any Make" and "Any Model" selectors. Use these when your target car is not in the popular lists — pick the make first, then the model, to build a custom search. This is the fallback for less common brands or models, and it works alongside the type and make browsing above rather than replacing it.

Research before you shortlist

Drive also publishes reviews and guides that sit alongside the listings:

  • Reviews are grouped by category — Electric cars (CUPRA Born, Volkswagen ID.3, Skoda Enyaq, Audi Q4 e-tron, Volkswagen ID.Buzz), Small SUVs (Skoda Kamiq, Volkswagen T-Cross, SEAT Arona, Audi Q2, Volkswagen Taigo), Hatchbacks (Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Octavia, SEAT Ibiza, Volkswagen Polo, Audi A1) and Family SUVs (SEAT Ateca, Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq, Audi Q7, CUPRA Formentor).
  • Guides cover best hybrid cars, best small cars, best family cars, best estate cars, best sports cars, plus EV guides (best electric cars, cheapest electric cars, best electric SUVs, best small electric cars, fastest electric cars) and SUV guides (best SUVs, best small SUVs, best hybrid SUVs, best family SUVs, best 4x4s).
  • Advice & stats includes car tax rates 2026, cheapest cars to run, cheapest cars to insure, what is Euro 6, and parking rights.

A practical sequence: use a guide or review to build a shortlist, then use the make or model browse to see actual listings, then compare total cost and monthly cost views to judge affordability.

What you can and cannot tell from browsing alone

The browse pages show vehicle categories, makes and models, and let you view listings with total cost and monthly cost options. They do not, on their own, confirm the condition, warranty terms, or finance eligibility of any individual car — those details sit on the individual listing. If warranty-backed vehicles and approved retailers matter to you, check the specific listing rather than relying on the category page.
