How to Check Live MLB Scores, Schedules, and Standings on MLB.com

Updated

MLB.com's homepage is the fastest way to check live scores, upcoming games, and division standings in one place. The page surfaces current and final scores at the top, a dated schedule of upcoming matchups with start times and TV listings, and a standings table broken out by division. You don't need an account to view any of this — scores, schedules, and standings are public. A subscription (MLB.TV) is only needed to watch out-of-market games, not to check results.

Live scores and game status on the homepage

The top of the homepage lists games in progress and recently finished games, each with:

  • Both teams and their scores (e.g., "Dodgers LAD 3, Braves ATL 1")
  • Series context — which team leads the series and by how much (e.g., "LAD leads 2-1")
  • Status labels — "Final" for completed games, or a start time for upcoming ones
  • "Wrap" and "Watch" links — a recap of the finished game and video highlights

So a line like Oct 6 Final Dodgers LAD 3 Braves ATL 1 NLDS G3 | LAD leads 2-1 tells you the game is over, the Dodgers won 3–1, it was Game 3 of the NL Division Series, and Los Angeles leads the series 2–1.

Schedules: dates, times, and where to watch

Below the scores, the schedule lists upcoming games grouped by date, with:

  • Date and start time in ET (e.g., "Oct 7, 4:00 PM ET")
  • Broadcast channel (e.g., TBS, FS1, FOX)
  • Series standing for playoff matchups
  • "Gameday," "Preview," and "Story" links for live play-by-play, a game preview, and related articles

Games marked with an asterisk (e.g., "ALDS G4*") are if-necessary games — they're only played depending on earlier results.

To check a specific team's full schedule rather than the league-wide list, use the team pages linked from the standings or the main navigation.

Standings by division

The Standings section shows each division as a table with these columns:

Column Meaning
Team Club name
W Wins
L Losses
% Winning percentage
GB Games behind the division leader

Teams carry status markers: z = clinched division, y = clinched playoff berth, w = clinched wild card. A "View Full Standings" link opens the complete league-wide view.

For example, in the AL East shown on the page, Tampa Bay (TB) has the z marker at 98–64, meaning it has clinched the division, while the Yankees (NYY) sit 4.5 games back at 93–68.

Game pages: live updates and recaps

Clicking into any game opens its Gameday page, which provides:

  • Live, play-by-play updates while the game is in progress
  • Box score and line score once play begins
  • A recap ("Wrap") after the game ends
  • Video highlights and related stories

This is the page to use when you want inning-by-inning detail rather than just the final score.

Common snags

  • Times are listed in ET. Convert to your local time zone before planning to watch.
  • Asterisked games may not be played. They depend on earlier results in the series.
  • Watching live games is separate from checking scores. Viewing out-of-market games requires an MLB.TV subscription; scores, schedules, and standings do not.
