How to Choose Between Mondo's Figures and Vinyl Soundtracks

Updated

Mondo sells two very different product types on the same storefront: collectible figures and soundtrack vinyl. The right choice depends on what you're actually collecting. If you want a physical character piece with a defined scale, look at the figure listings and check the scale (1/12 vs 1/6) plus the price. If you want music, look at the vinyl listings and check the format (LP, 2XLP, 3XLP), the edition label, and whether it's a pre-order. The two categories rarely overlap in purpose, so the decision is usually "which hobby am I buying for right now," not "which product is better."

What the product listings actually tell you

Mondo's homepage shows both categories side by side, and each listing carries the details you need to compare.

Figures are labeled by scale and price. From the listings visible on the site:

How to read scale when choosing a figure

Scale is the single most useful number on a figure listing, because it tells you the approximate size and how much shelf space and detail you're buying.

  • 1/12 scale figures are roughly six inches tall for a standard human character. They fit on a desk or a crowded shelf and cost less — the Ghostbusters figures are $101 and He-Man is $95.
  • 1/6 scale figures are roughly twelve inches tall, with more sculpting and tailoring detail. They cost more — the Leonardo figure is $235.

If you're building a display around one character, 1/6 gives you a centerpiece. If you're collecting a team or a lineup, 1/12 keeps the set affordable and consistent in size. Note that not every figure listing states a scale — the Over the Garden Wall set and the Jean Grey pin don't show one, so treat those as their own category rather than assuming a scale.

How to read format and edition labels on vinyl

For vinyl, the format tells you how much music and packaging you get, and the edition label tells you how hard it may be to find later.

  • LP is a single record. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and Silver Bullet are both $35 at this format.
  • 2XLP / 2xLP is two records. Freddy Vs. Jason ($60), Superman ($55), Metal Gear Solid ($48), and The Last of Us: Season 1 ($42) are all two-record releases.
  • 3XLP is three records, typically for longer scores. Oppenheimer is $50 and God of War Ragnarok is $60, and the God of War listing also includes a slipcase.

The edition labels matter if you care about scarcity:

  • Limited Edition Exclusive (Freddy Vs. Jason, Silver Bullet) signals a restricted run.
  • Mondo Exclusive (The Last of Us: Season 1) means it's sold through Mondo specifically.
  • Distributed title (Metal Gear Solid, and also noted on Freddy Vs. Jason and Silver Bullet) means Mondo is carrying a release rather than producing it — useful to know if you're tracking who made it.

Pre-order vs. in-stock vs. "Select Option"

The status line on each listing changes what happens when you click:

  • Add to Cart means the item is available to buy now.
  • Pre-Order means you're reserving an item that hasn't shipped yet — the Leonardo figure, He-Man, and the Over the Garden Wall set are all pre-orders.
  • Select Option (Superman, Metal Gear Solid) means there's a variant or choice to make before you can add it, so open the listing rather than expecting a single default.

Checkout is handled at mondoshop.com/checkout once you've added items.

A quick way to decide

Ask yourself one question first: do I want a character or do I want a record?

  • If a character: pick the scale that matches your existing collection, then compare price against detail. 1/12 for lineups, 1/6 for a single showcase piece.
  • If a record: pick the format that matches how much you want from that score, then check the edition label if resale or scarcity matters to you.
  • If both: they're separate purchases with separate budgets, so treat them as two decisions rather than one.

The listings give you scale, format, price, and status directly — those four fields are enough to make the call without digging further.
