How to Contribute to the Yume Nikki Wiki
Updated
The Yume Nikki Wiki is a Fandom community project with 211 articles, and it is open to contributions. The site's own home page lists four concrete ways to help: expanding article stubs, checking the Wanted Pages article for current needs, uploading images for pages that need them, and using the Maintenance Reports, Page Lists, and Help with Editing pages. You do not need special permission to start — the wiki explicitly says "feel free to join in and help build this wiki."
What the Wiki Actually Asks For
The home page's "Contribute to this Wiki" section is the authoritative task list. It names four activities:
- Expand Article Stubs — short articles that need more content.
- Visit the Wanted Pages article — a list of pages the wiki wants but does not yet have.
- Upload images for pages that need them — visual gaps in existing articles.
- Use Maintenance Reports and Page Lists — tools for finding work that needs doing.
A separate "Help with Editing" link covers the mechanics of editing itself. If you are new to Fandom wikis, that page is the right starting point before you touch an article.
A Practical Order for New Contributors
- Read Help with Editing first. This explains how Fandom's editor works, so your first edit is not a formatting experiment.
- Open Wanted Pages. This tells you which missing articles the community has flagged, so you are not guessing at what is needed.
- Pick a stub and expand it. Stubs are the lowest-risk starting point because the page already exists and only needs more content.
- Check Maintenance Reports and Page Lists once you are comfortable. These surface structural problems — broken links, orphaned pages, and similar cleanup work.
- Upload images only for pages that need them. The home page frames this as filling gaps, not adding decorative images.
The expected result at each step is the same: a page that better documents the game. Because the wiki is a documentation project, the value of an edit is measured by whether it makes the game's content easier to find or understand.
One Thing to Know Before You Dive In
The wiki's own welcome text warns that "much of the enjoyment in playing Yume Nikki comes from the intrigue of exploration and marvel of the unexpected." It states that the wiki is "intended mostly to enrich the experience of players who are already familiar with the dream world," and that "new players are strongly advised to immerse themselves in the game before reading this wiki in depth."
That warning matters for contributors too. If you have not played the game, you may not recognize which details are worth documenting or which gaps are real. Contributing is easier and more accurate once you know the dream world yourself.
What the Wiki Does Not Tell You
The home page does not describe an account requirement, an approval process, or a review queue for edits. It also does not mention any cost, payment, or paid tier — the site describes itself as community content available under CC-BY-SA. Treat those as open questions rather than assumptions: sign in if you want your edits attributed, and expect normal wiki-style community review rather than a formal gate.
If you want to contribute, the shortest path is: read Help with Editing, open Wanted Pages, expand one stub, then work through Maintenance Reports at your own pace.
