How to Contribute to YARG as a Developer, Artist, or Charter
Updated
YARG (Yet Another Rhythm Game) is a free, open-source, community-driven PlasticBand game, and the project's own FAQ points contributors to its Discord server as the place to get involved. If you want to help with programming, art, or charting, join the Discord server and use the dedicated channels for each of those areas. Musicians who want their songs included in YARG are directed to the same community route. Before contributing, note that YARG states it stands firmly against all forms of piracy and that its importable content is meant for creators to share their work and for educational purposes.
Ways to contribute
YARG's FAQ names three specific contribution tracks, each with its own channel on the Discord server:
- Programming — help with YARG's development as an open-source project.
- Art — contribute artwork to the game.
- Charting — create note charts for songs.
The game is open-source, so anyone can help make YARG better. The FAQ frames joining the Discord as the first step for all three roles.
If you make music and want your song in YARG
The FAQ includes a dedicated question for musicians: "I make music, and would like my/our song in YARG. How can we go about…" — the answer routes through the same Discord community. In practice, this means reaching out to the team there rather than submitting through a separate portal, since no other submission channel is described in the available material.
YARG's official setlist already includes over 100 licensed songs from artists such as Nine Inch Nails, Good Kid, Last Dinosaurs, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Glass Beach, plus independent creators like Jamie Paige, raphaelgoulart, NyxTheShield, bitbreaker, and JubyPhonic. Full albums are also distributed through the YARC Launcher, including "Summertide" by Alohaii, "Wanderkid" by JW Francis, "Abyss of Time" by James Paddock, and "FX4" by Jake "virt" Kaufman. That gives you a sense of the range of music the project already works with.
The anti-piracy rule you agree to
YARG's FAQ is explicit on this point, and it matters for anyone contributing content:
- YARG stands firmly against all forms of piracy and neither supports nor endorses it.
- The platform's importable content is designed for creators to share their work and for educational purposes — this does not justify or excuse piracy.
- YARG itself does not use any ripped or pirated assets or music and states it never will.
- By using YARG, users agree not to promote or endorse piracy in any way through the platform.
So if you are contributing charts, art, or music, make sure you have the rights to what you submit and that it is not derived from pirated material.

What to check before you start
- Confirm the current channel structure. The FAQ describes dedicated programming, art, and charting channels, but Discord servers reorganize over time — check the server itself for the latest layout.
- Read the community rules on content. The anti-piracy stance applies to what you share through the platform, not just to the game's own assets.
- Expect online features to be in progress. YARG supports local multiplayer for up to 32 players; online multiplayer and features like competitive leaderboards are described as coming in future updates, so don't plan contributions around them yet.
