How to Convert a Bank Statement PDF to Excel or CSV with PDFGenie

Updated

Upload the statement PDF exactly as your bank gives it to you, let PDFGenie extract the rows, then download an Excel or CSV file. You don't need an account for the first free document each day, and the file limit is 50 MB. The whole process is three steps, with no template setup or column mapping.

Step 1: Upload the PDF

Use the statement in its original form — no reformatting, no renaming to match a template, and no manual column mapping. PDFGenie accepts files up to 50 MB.

If your statement is password-protected, you can still use it. PDFGenie unlocks the PDF in memory, and the password is never stored.

Step 2: Let PDFGenie read every row

PDFGenie detects:

  • Dates
  • Descriptions
  • Money in and money out
  • Running balances

It's built to handle the messy parts of real statements — tables that span multiple pages and rows that wrap. You don't need to clean those up before uploading.

Step 3: Download Excel or CSV

The output contains real dates and numbers, not text that looks like a date or number. Before you download, every row is checked against the running balance, so you can spot anything that needs review.

For example, a converted row might show:

Date Description Amount Balance
02 Aug Coffee Roasters Ltd 4.50 2,445.50
03 Aug Salary ACME Corp 3,200.00 5,645.50
05 Aug Rent, standing order 1,450.00 4,195.50
21 Aug Card refund 19.99 4,563.82

The interface flags rows to review, so you're not left guessing whether a balance line matches.

What happens to your files

Uploaded files and results are deleted automatically after 24 hours, or 72 hours if a conversion fails (so the converter can be fixed). You can also delete them yourself at any time. Conversion runs on PDFGenie's own servers with no AI services involved, and statements are never used to train AI models.

Free use and paid plans

You get 1 free document a day with no account. Beyond that, pricing is based on pages, not seats:

Plan Price Pages per month
Starter $15/month 400
Professional $30/month 1,000
Business $50/month 4,000

Annual billing saves 50%, and you can cancel any time. If you only need it once, one-off page credits never expire:

  • 100 pages — $9 (9.0¢ per page)
  • 300 pages — $19 (6.3¢ per page)
  • 1,000 pages — $49 (4.9¢ per page)

One-off credits suit a tax season or a loan application where a subscription would leave you paying every month.

Common snags to expect

  • Large statements: keep the file under 50 MB. If a single PDF exceeds that, split it before uploading.
  • Password-protected PDFs: they work, but the password is only used in memory — you'll need to enter it again for a new upload.
  • Rows flagged for review: this usually means the running balance didn't line up for that row. Check the original statement before relying on the figure.
  • Free limit: the free document resets daily, so a single statement per day stays free.
