How to Convert a Steam ID Using STEAMID I/O

Updated

STEAMID I/O converts between Steam's identifier formats — steamID, steamID3, steamID64 (also called community ID or friendID), and customURL — and can point you to the matching Steam Community profile. Paste any one of those identifiers into the lookup on the homepage and the tool returns the corresponding formats. It supports both a single-entry lookup and an extended list mode for handling more than one ID at a time.

What each identifier is

Identifier What it is
steamID The original unique identifier for a Steam account
steamID3 A newer format derived from the steamID
steamID64 Also called community ID or friendID; derived from the steamID and used to locate a user's Steam Community page
customURL An optional, more personalized identifier that can be used to look up a Steam Community page

The page describes the relationship directly: a steamID can be converted to the newer steamID3 and to a steamID64, and with that steamID64 a user's Steam community page can be found.

Converting a single ID

  1. Go to the STEAMID I/O homepage.
  2. Use the lookup field to enter the identifier you already have — a steamID, steamID64, steamID3, or customURL.
  3. Submit the lookup. The tool converts it and returns the other formats, including the steamID64 you can use to reach the Steam Community profile.

The expected result is the set of equivalent identifiers for that account, so you can move from whichever format you were given to the one you need.

Converting several IDs at once

STEAMID I/O offers an extended list mode alongside the single-entry lookup. Use it when you have multiple identifiers to process rather than pasting them one at a time.

Finding a Steam Community profile

If your goal is to reach a profile rather than just convert a number, the steamID64 is the useful output: the page states that with the steamID64 a user's Steam community page can be found. A customURL also works for looking up a Steam Community page.

Installing the browser search plugin

If your browser supports OpenSearch (the page names Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer 7 and above), you can install the STEAMID I/O search plugin and run lookups from the browser's search bar instead of visiting the site first. The homepage provides an install link for this.
