How to Copy, Save, or Clear Generated Words on Random Word Generator
Updated
Random Word Generator gives you three list-management controls after you generate words: Copy, View Saved, and Clear List, plus a Reset Options button for your filters. Use Copy to put the current list on your clipboard, View Saved to see how many words you have stored, Clear List to empty the current results, and Reset Options to return every filter to its default. These controls act on the list you see on screen, so generate first, then manage the results.
Copying Generated Words
The site provides two copy actions, and they do different things:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Copy | Copies the current generated list to your clipboard |
| Copy list to clipboard | Copies the list to your clipboard |
Both appear in the options area alongside the results. The practical difference is when you use them: copy after you have generated the words you want, because the clipboard takes whatever is currently in the list.
Steps:
- Set your options (number of words, word type, language, first/last letter, syllables or length).
- Generate the words so they appear in the results area.
- Click Copy or Copy list to clipboard.
- Paste into your document, notes app, or wherever you need the words.
Expected result: the full current list lands on your clipboard as text, ready to paste.
Common snag: if you change any filter after copying, the clipboard still holds the old list. Copy again after regenerating.
Viewing Saved Words
The View Saved control shows a count in parentheses, for example View Saved ( 0 ). The number tells you how many words are currently in your saved set. When it reads 0, nothing has been saved yet.
Click View Saved to open the saved words. This is useful when you are collecting candidates across several rounds of generation instead of committing to one list.
Steps:
- Generate words.
- Save the ones you want to keep (the saved count updates in the parentheses).
- Click View Saved to review everything you have collected.
- Copy from the saved view when you are ready to use the set.
Common snag: the saved count is your only at-a-glance signal. If it still shows 0 after you meant to keep something, the save did not register — check before clearing anything.
Clearing the Current List
Clear List empties the words currently displayed. Use it when you want a clean slate without touching your filter settings.
Steps:
- Finish copying or saving anything you want to keep.
- Click Clear List.
- Generate again to produce a fresh set.
Expected result: the results area is empty and ready for a new generation.
Common snag: clearing removes the on-screen list. If you had not copied or saved it, those words are gone — copy first, clear second.
Resetting All Filter Options
Reset Options is separate from Clear List. Clearing empties the words; resetting returns your filters to default. The defaults include:
- Word Type: All (a curated list of thousands of common English words)
- Blank first letter, last letter, syllable, and length fields, which means the complete list is used
- Blank size constraints, so no "less than" or "greater than" filtering applies
Steps:
- Click Reset Options.
- Confirm the Word Type dropdown is back to All and the letter, syllable, and length fields are empty.
- Generate again for unfiltered results.
Common snag: if your results look unexpectedly narrow, an old filter is usually the cause. Reset Options is the fastest way to rule that out before troubleshooting anything else.
Which Control to Use
| You want to… | Use |
|---|---|
| Move the current list into another app | Copy / Copy list to clipboard |
| Check how many words you have kept | View Saved (count in parentheses) |
| Start over with the same filters | Clear List |
| Start over with default filters | Reset Options |
A safe order for any session: generate → copy or save what you need → clear or reset → generate again. That sequence prevents losing a list you meant to keep.
