How to Create a Song with MuseGen
Updated
You can turn a short text idea into a full song with vocals, lyrics, and mastering inside MuseGen Studio. The basic flow is: describe your idea, optionally pick a mood or style, choose a model, then generate and refine. This works for anyone who wants a finished track without recording vocals or instruments, and it fits genres from pop and hip-hop to cinematic and lo-fi.
What you need before starting
- A MuseGen account with credits available. The page shows a "10 credits cost" label next to Generate Music and a "0 credits remaining" indicator, so generation consumes credits from your balance.
- A rough idea, even just a few words. The interface includes a "Surprise me" option if you don't have a prompt ready.
- A decision on whether you want an instrumental-only track. There is an Instrumental toggle for that.
Step-by-step: from idea to finished song
1. Open the Create Music tool
In MuseGen Studio, select the Create Music tool from the tool list (the console also lists Create Voice, Create Image, and Create Video). The AI Music Generator panel is where song creation happens.
2. Enter your prompt
Type a few words describing the song you want. The page describes this as transforming "text prompts and creative ideas" into songs, so a short phrase is enough to start. If you're stuck, use Surprise me to let the system fill in a prompt.
3. Choose a mood or style (optional)
The studio references moods and genres throughout — pop, hip-hop, cinematic, lo-fi, and others. The AI adapts tempo, instrumentation, and vocal style to match what you describe, so naming a genre or mood in your prompt or selection helps steer the result.
4. Pick a model
The Model selector shows Suno, with Suno V5.5 marked as Recommended. This is the engine that composes melody, harmony, lyrics, and vocals together.
5. Decide on instrumental or vocal
Leave the Instrumental option off if you want lyrics and vocals generated. Turn it on if you only want the music bed.
6. Generate
Click Generate Music. The system composes melody, harmony, lyrics, and vocals simultaneously and produces a full-length track — the page describes output as "radio-ready" and generated "in seconds." Expect a credit cost per generation (shown as 10 credits in the interface).
7. Preview the result
A Generated Song preview panel appears. Sample tracks on the page run around 2:48 to 3:13, giving a sense of typical full-song length.
8. Refine and export
After generating, you can:
- Regenerate sections you don't like
- Extend duration
- Adjust lyrics
- Export in MP3, WAV, or MIDI for DAW production, sharing, or streaming
The page also mentions editable stems and rights-safe music as part of the output.

Common sticking points
- Credits run out. The interface shows remaining credits, and each generation costs credits. Check your balance before starting a long session.
- Vocals when you wanted instrumental. If you get unwanted vocals, the Instrumental toggle was likely left off.
- Style doesn't match. The AI adapts to your prompt, so a vague prompt gives a vague result. Naming a genre or mood tightens the output.
- Wanting to change one part. You don't have to regenerate the whole song — use section regeneration, duration extension, or lyric editing instead.
