How to Create and Print Blank Sheet Music on BlankSheetMusic.net

Updated

BlankSheetMusic.net is a free browser-based tool that generates printable staff paper. You pick a template (treble clef, bass clef, TAB, piano staff, percussion, and more), adjust page and notation settings, then print the result or copy a shareable link that reopens the exact same format. It works for anyone who needs blank manuscript paper without installing software — the only requirement is a browser and a printer (or a PDF printer if you want to save the file).

Step 1: Choose a template

The template list is the starting point. Options visible on the site include:

  • Single staves: No clef staff, Treble clef (G), Bass clef (F), Alto clef (C), Tenor clef (C) — several of these also come in a "with lyrics line" version.
  • Tablature: 4, 5, 6, and 7 string TAB.
  • Combined staff + TAB: Treble clef + 4/6/7 string TAB; Bass clef + 4/5/6 string TAB.
  • Keyboard and ensembles: Piano staff, Piano + staff, Piano + treble clef staff, Organ staff, SATB, SATB + piano, SAB, SSA, SSATB.
  • Percussion: Drums and percussions, Percussion single line, plus alternate-clef variants.

Select one template from the "Select one template..." dropdown to load it into the preview.

Step 2: Adjust the page and notation settings

After the template loads, the controls below it let you change the layout:

Setting What it controls
Page size A4, Letter, Legal, or Custom
Margins Default, Minimum, None, or Custom (with top/left/bottom/right fields)
Units mm, cm, or in
Orientation Portrait or Landscape
Key sig. C Maj/A min through 7 sharps or 7 flats
Time sig. None, Common, Cut common, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 2/2, 6/8, 12/8
Sig. placing All staves or First stave only
Color Dark, Normal, Light, Faint
Stroke width Thin, Normal, Thick

There are also Shrink and Grow buttons for scaling the staff layout, and if you choose Custom page size or margins, the width/height and margin fields become active.

Step 3: Print

Click the Print button to send the current setup to your printer. The site's own tutorial notes that the page is responsive and some buttons are hidden on small screens — if a control seems missing on a phone, rotating the device to landscape can reveal it.

To save a PDF instead of printing on paper, choose your operating system's "Save as PDF" (or equivalent) destination in the print dialog.

Step 4: Save or share the exact format

The Share this panel produces a link that reopens the same configuration, with a "Copy to clipboard and close" button. Use this if you want to:

  • Bookmark a specific layout you use often.
  • Send a collaborator the exact staff paper you're working from.
  • Recreate the same format later without redoing every setting.

Practical notes

  • Language: The interface is available in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, and Portuguese, with a link to help translate missing languages.
  • Bug reports: Feedback is collected through the X.com account @staffpaper via Direct Message, not through a form on the site.
  • No account needed for the steps above — the template selection, adjustment, print, and share-link features described on the page work directly in the browser. The site's page evidence does not mention pricing, so treat any cost-related assumption as unverified.

If you only need one quick sheet, pick a template and hit Print. If you need a consistent format across many sessions, set it up once and save the Share this link.
