How to Download and Install FFmpeg Batch AV Converter
Updated
Download the latest Windows build from the official site: v3.2.9 (64-bit), available as either an Installer or a Portable package. The Installer is the right choice if you want the app registered on your system and updated in place; the Portable build is better if you want to run it from a USB drive or keep it isolated from your system. Both are 64-bit Windows builds. If you are on 32-bit Windows or Linux, you need one of the older versions listed further down the page.
What you need before installing
The site lists these system requirements:
- Windows 7 / 8 / 10 (32 or 64 bits)
- .NET runtime libraries 4.6.1 or higher
- Visual C++ redistributable 2010
Install the .NET runtime and the VC++ redistributable first if they are missing — the app depends on them and will not start without them.
Download steps
- Go to the official site at
ffmpeg-batch.sourceforge.io. - In the download section, pick the build you want:
- v3.2.9 (64-bit) Installer — for a normal installed setup.
- v3.2.9 Portable (64-bit) — for a no-install, self-contained copy.
- Save the file to your machine.
- Verify the download against the published MD5 checksums:
- Installer MD5:
b2031d333c65b0188ded515459d25460 - Portable MD5:
a076ddb9a494c8826ab8abffab4da5bd
- Installer MD5:
To check the MD5 on Windows, open PowerShell in the download folder and run:
Get-FileHash .\your-downloaded-file.exe -Algorithm MD5
Compare the output to the checksum above. If they match, the file is intact and unmodified. If they do not match, delete the file and download it again — do not run it.
Install steps
Installer build:
- Run the downloaded installer.
- Follow the prompts to choose the install location and finish setup.
- Launch FFmpeg Batch AV Converter from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.
Portable build:
- Extract or place the portable executable wherever you want it (USB drive, a folder of your choice).
- Run the executable directly — no installation step.
Other versions
If the current 64-bit Windows build does not fit your system, the site also lists:
- v3.1.2 Linux Wine (64-bit)
- v2.7.7 (x86) — 32-bit
- v2.7.7 Portable (x86) — 32-bit portable
- v2.3.1 Linux compatible via Wine
For Linux, the site points to a Readme file for Ubuntu + Wine 5. These are older builds, so expect the feature set of the version you pick rather than the current one.
Updating
The download page doubles as the update page — the latest version is always listed at the top. To update, download the newest build and either run the installer over your existing install or replace your portable executable. There is no separate in-app updater described on the page.
Common snags
- App won't launch: almost always a missing .NET 4.6.1+ runtime or the Visual C++ 2010 redistributable. Install both and retry.
- Wrong architecture: the current build is 64-bit only. On 32-bit Windows, use the v2.7.7 (x86) builds.
- Linux users: there is no native Linux build here — you run it through Wine, and the newest Linux-compatible entry is v3.1.2 (64-bit), with v2.3.1 as a fallback.
The project is free to download and use; the site asks for donations (PayPal, Buy Me a Coffee) and Patreon support for translations, but these are optional and not required to get the software.
