How to Embed a Video with OneLinePlayer
Updated
OneLinePlayer is a free, no-code web video player for Vimeo, Dropbox, and public video URLs. To embed a video, paste your link into the Adjust panel, set quality, cover, size, and controls, then copy the generated embed code (or the npm/CDN option) into your site. It works best when your video file is already optimized for web playback.
What you need before starting
- A video source: a Vimeo video link, a Dropbox shared link, or a public URL to a video file.
- A supported file format:
.webm,.ogg,.mp4, or.mov. - A web-optimized video file to avoid interruptions while playing.
- A cover image URL if you want a custom poster instead of a default frame.
Note from the site: Google Drive does not support files more than 100 MB, so it is not a reliable host for larger videos.
Step-by-step: generate your embed code
1. Open the Adjust panel
Go to onelineplayer.com and find the Adjust section. This is where you configure the player before copying code.
2. Paste your video link
Use the field that matches your source:
- Vimeo video link — paste the Vimeo URL.
- Dropbox shared link — paste the shared link from Dropbox.
- Public video URL — paste a direct public URL to your video file.
If the link cannot be read, the player shows a {{ sourceError }} message. That usually means the link is private, malformed, or not a supported format.
3. Set quality
Choose from Auto, 1080p, 720p, or 540p. The site marks a quality setting as highly recommended, so pick a level that matches your source file rather than upscaling a lower-resolution video.
4. Add a cover image (optional)
Paste a poster image URL into the Cover image field. If the image cannot be loaded, you will see a {{ posterSourceError }} message. A custom cover is useful for portfolios and social media embeds where the first frame is not representative.
5. Choose size and behavior
- Size — set the player dimensions, or use Responsive so it scales to its container.
- Custom adjustments — toggle options such as autoplay, auto pause, loop, mute, and GIF mode.
- GIF mode — imitates GIF behavior: no sound, passive autoplay, and no controls. Use this only when you want a silent looping clip.
6. Configure video controls
You can enable or hide:
- Play button
- Time display (
{{ videoDuration }}) - Play bar
- Volume
- Fullscreen
7. Apply advanced customization
Under Advanced customization you can style the play button and overlay:
- Play button color and size
- Color overlay, opacity, shadow (X, Y, blur, spread), stroke color and thickness
- A Reset option to return to defaults
One limitation from the site: due to Vimeo terms of use, controls customization is only available if your video is on a Vimeo Plus plan or above.
8. Copy the embed code
Once the preview looks right, copy the generated Embed Code. The site also offers npm and CDN options if you prefer to install the player in a project rather than paste a snippet.
9. Paste it into your site
Add the embed code where the player should appear — a page, portfolio, or post. Reload the page and confirm the video plays, the cover shows, and your chosen controls behave as expected.

Common issues to check
- Source error — the link is private, expired, or not a supported format. Re-copy the share link and confirm the file type.
- Poster error — the cover image URL is broken or not publicly accessible.
- Playback interruptions — the video is not optimized for web. Compress or re-encode before uploading.
- Missing control customization — this is expected on Vimeo unless the video is on Vimeo Plus or above.
- Large Google Drive files — Drive does not support files over 100 MB, so host elsewhere for bigger videos.
OneLinePlayer is aimed at people who want a clean player without branding, overwhelming controls, black screens, or coding. If your priority is a minimal, free embed for Vimeo, Dropbox, or a public file URL, this workflow covers the full path from link to live player.
