How to Filter and Sort Release Dates on Midloop
Updated
Midloop lets you browse upcoming release dates for movies, TV shows, games, and music, and narrow them down with filters and sorting. To use it, open the site, pick a media type, then apply the filters and sort options that appear for that category. Each media type has its own set of filters, so the options change depending on whether you're looking at movies, TV shows, games, or music.
Start by choosing a media type
Midloop organizes its release schedule into four separate sections, each with its own filters:
- Movies
- TV shows
- Games
- Music
Switch to the section you care about first. The filters below only apply within the section you're viewing, so a streaming service filter won't appear under games, and a platform filter won't appear under movies.
Use the quick time ranges
Each section offers shortcut ranges at the top so you don't have to set a custom date window:
- Today
- This Week
- This Month
- Upcoming
Pick one of these to jump straight to that window. "Upcoming" is the broadest view and is the best starting point if you just want to see what's coming without a specific timeframe in mind.
Apply filters to narrow the list
The available filters depend on the media type:
| Media type | Filters available |
|---|---|
| Movies | Genre, Streaming Service, Rating |
| TV shows | Genre, Streaming Service, Rating |
| Games | Genre, Platform, Mode, Rating |
| Music | Genre |
A few practical notes:
- Genre works across all four sections, so it's the most consistent way to narrow results.
- Streaming Service (movies and TV shows) is useful when you only want titles landing on a service you actually subscribe to.
- Platform and Mode (games only) help if you're looking for a specific console or a particular play style.
- Rating appears in movies, TV shows, and games, but not music.
To clear a filter, use the ✕ next to it. You can combine multiple filters at once to get a tighter list.
Sort the results
Each section has a sort control with two directions:
- Date — ascending or descending
- Rating — ascending or descending
For example, sorting by Date ASC shows the soonest releases first, which is what you want when planning what to watch or play next. Sorting by Rating helps when you'd rather see the best-reviewed titles regardless of when they drop.
Show or hide hidden items
Each section includes a Show / Hide hidden items toggle. If you've hidden titles you're not interested in, use this control to bring them back into view or tuck them away again. This keeps your schedule focused without permanently losing track of anything.
Save titles with bookmarks
Midloop has a My Bookmarks area where saved items collect. Inside bookmarks you can:
- Filter by All, Movies, TV Shows, Games, Books, or Music
- Sort by Date or Rating
- Share your list
- Clear All to empty it
Bookmarking is the simplest way to build a personal watchlist or wishlist out of the release schedule.
A quick example
Say you want to know which games are coming to a platform you own, sorted by the soonest release:
- Open the Games section.
- Set the time range to Upcoming.
- Add a Platform filter for your console.
- Set sort to Date ASC.
You'll get a list of upcoming games on that platform, soonest first. Swap the sort to Rating if you'd rather see the highest-rated ones at the top.
Common snags
- Filters look different than expected. This is normal — each media type has its own filter set, so check that you're in the right section.
- A title seems missing. It may be hidden. Use Show / Hide hidden items to reveal it.
- You hit a 404. Midloop has a "Page Not Found" screen with a Go Back link, so return to the previous page and continue from there.
Where the data comes from
Midloop pulls its listings from several sources: movies and TV data from TMDB, game data from IGDB, streaming availability from JustWatch, music data from Last.fm, and entertainment news from News API. Knowing this helps set expectations — for instance, streaming availability depends on JustWatch coverage, so it may not list every regional service.
