How to Find a Campground in Ontario Using Camping In Ontario

Updated

Use the Find a Campground tool on campinginontario.ca to search 350+ private and municipal campgrounds across Ontario. You can filter by arrival/departure dates, site type (Full Season, Overnight Sites, Rental Units, Wilderness, Glamping, Tent Sites), and location region, or browse by experience if you haven't picked a date or park type yet. The site covers everything from lakeside RV sites to family-friendly cabins and glamping.

Step 1: Open the Find a Campground Search

Go to campinginontario.ca and select Find a Campground from the main navigation. The search panel on the homepage offers the same tool, so you can start there without leaving the landing page.

Step 2: Set Your Filters

The search form combines three kinds of filters. Use as many or as few as you need:

Filter Options When to use it
Arrival/Departure Date range You have fixed travel dates and need available sites
Site Type Full Season, Overnight Sites, Rental Units, Wilderness, Glamping, Tent Sites You know what kind of stay you want (e.g., a cabin rental or a tent pitch)
Location 13 Ontario regions (see below) You've picked an area or want to narrow the drive

Location regions available:

  • Southwest Ontario
  • Niagara Falls and Wine Country
  • Hamilton, Halton and Brant
  • Huron, Perth, Waterloo and Wellington
  • Greater Toronto Area / York, Durham and Hills of Headwaters
  • Bruce, Grey and Simcoe
  • Kawartha and Northumberland
  • South Eastern Ontario
  • Ottawa and Countryside
  • Haliburton Highlands to the Ottawa Valley
  • Muskoka, Parry Sound and Algonquin Park
  • North East
  • North Central
  • North West

Expected result: The search returns matching campgrounds from the network. Select View All Campgrounds to see the full directory without filters.

Step 3: Browse by Experience (If You're Flexible)

If dates and site type aren't fixed, use Browse By Experience. This groups campgrounds by the kind of trip you want — glamping under the stars, untamed wilderness, or family resorts — rather than by geography. It's the better entry point when you're still deciding what kind of camping you want.

Step 4: Check Trailers for Sale (Optional)

If you need a rig before you book, the Trailers For Sale section lists new and pre-loved trailers and RVs ready for campsites across the network. This is separate from campground search, so treat it as a companion step rather than part of the site search.

Common Stops and What to Do

  • No results with all filters on: Drop the date filter first. Availability changes by season, and a date range is the most restrictive field.
  • Unsure which region covers your destination: Use Browse By Experience or View All Campgrounds and scan by park name instead of region.
  • Want to confirm a campground is part of the network: The directory only lists private and municipal campgrounds in the Camping In Ontario network, so anything you find through the search is a member listing.
  • Need membership details: The Become a Member and Your Guarantee pages explain the association's membership program; this is separate from booking a site.

Quick Answer

Start at Find a Campground, enter your dates and site type, pick a region, and review the results. If you have no fixed plans, Browse By Experience is the faster route to a shortlist.
