How to Find a Degree or Program at Cleveland State University

Updated

Cleveland State University's homepage includes a program search tool that lets you filter its catalog by degree level, area of interest, and format. Use it when you already know roughly what you want to study but need to see which specific degrees, certificates, or minors match — and whether they're offered on campus, hybrid, or online.

Where the search tool lives

The program search sits in the "What will you study?" section of the homepage. It presents three filter dropdowns plus a Search button and a Reset option, so you can narrow the catalog before browsing individual program pages.

The three filters

Degree Level

The Degree Level dropdown covers the full range of credentials the university lists:

  • Bachelor's
  • Bachelor's/Accelerated Master's
  • Certificate
  • Doctorate
  • Endorsement
  • JD (Juris Doctor)
  • Joint Degree
  • Licensure
  • Master's
  • Minors, All
  • Non-Degree
  • Specialist

Area of Interest

The Area of Interest dropdown groups programs by subject:

  • Arts
  • Business
  • Communication
  • Culture and Languages
  • Education
  • Engineering & Computer Science
  • Health & Medicine
  • Humanities
  • Law
  • Mathematics
  • Natural Sciences
  • Social Science
  • Urban Affairs

Note that Math and Mathematics both appear as separate entries in the source, so if a first search under one returns nothing useful, try the other.

Format

The Format dropdown has three options:

  • On Campus
  • Hybrid
  • Online

How to run a search

  1. Pick a Degree Level (for example, Master's).
  2. Pick an Area of Interest (for example, Education).
  3. Pick a Format if location matters to you (for example, On Campus).
  4. Select Search to see matching programs.
  5. Select Reset to clear the filters and start over.

Each result card shows the program name, its format, a short description, and two links: Visit program page for full details and Request Info to ask the university directly.

Example programs the tool surfaces

Program Format What the listing emphasizes
Education, M.Ed. On Campus Educational theory, policy, and practice with a focus on urban education and equity; specializations include principal licensure, counseling, special education, and early childhood education; completion via capstone or thesis
Psychology, B.A. On Campus Preparation for business or social services, or a foundation for graduate study; covers psychological concepts, statistics, research design, and research evaluation
Nursing, B.S.N. On Campus Theory-and-practice curriculum preparing graduates for the NCLEX-RN and careers in clinical practice, research, education, or healthcare administration
Information Systems, MIS — Listed in the search results; check the program page for format and details

Practical notes

  • The homepage states the application is open for Fall 2027, so the catalog you're browsing reflects current and upcoming admissions cycles.
  • The homepage describes "over 175 career-building programs," while the site description mentions "over 200 programs across eight colleges." Treat the search tool's results as the authoritative list for any specific term.
  • If you're undecided, start with Area of Interest only and leave Degree Level and Format open — that shows you every credential available in a subject, from minor through doctorate.
  • If you need a program you can complete remotely, set Format to Online or Hybrid first; on-campus is the default impression many listings give.

Once you've narrowed to a few programs, use Request Info on each card to get admissions requirements, deadlines, and cost details directly from the university, since those specifics aren't shown in the search results themselves.
