How to Find Events, School Updates, and Classified Ads on Delta News Web

Updated

Delta News Web is a community news site for Delta Junction, Alaska, and the surrounding area. To find events, school updates, and classified ads, use the site's homepage sections: Upcoming Events for dated community and church activities, School News for menus, sports schedules, and school links, and the Classified Ads tab at the top of the page, which opens a drop-down menu. The sections below explain what each one contains and how to use it.

Upcoming Events: Dated Community and Church Activities

The Upcoming Events section lists activities with specific dates and times, so you can check what is happening on a given day. On the homepage, the section shows a short preview of the next several entries, followed by More Events » and Submit Events » links.

Entries in the preview follow a consistent format: time, date, and event name. Examples from the site include:

  • 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm, October 26, 2026 – Our Lady of Sorrows Mass
  • 7:00 pm – 8:12 pm, October 26, 2026 – Delta Christian Center Corporate Prayer Group
  • 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm, October 26, 2026 – AA meeting, DPFL church
  • 10:00 am – 11:00 am, October 27, 2026 – Story Hour with Miss Shona - Ages 3 to 5
  • 11:15 am – 12:15 pm, October 27, 2026 – Story Hour with Miss Shona - Ages 0 to 3
  • 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm, October 28, 2026 – Stop n Shop Thrift Store

To use it: scan the preview for the date you need, then select More Events » to see the full list. If you are organizing an event, Submit Events » is the entry point for sending it in.

What to expect: the preview is a partial list, not the full calendar. Events are grouped by date, and recurring items such as daily Mass or weekly Story Hour appear as separate dated entries.

School News: Menus, Sports, and School Links

The School News section covers day-to-day school information for Delta Junction families. It combines several kinds of content in one place:

  • Lunch menus for each weekday, listing the main dish, sides, fruit, and milk. For example, Monday lists chicken nuggets, green beans, side salad, roll, tater tots, applesauce, and milk; Friday lists cheesy breadsticks, marinara sauce, side salad, apple, ice cream sandwich, and milk.
  • Sports schedules with date, time, level, opponent, and location. Examples include volleyball on the 26th (JV at 3:30 and varsity at 5:00 vs. Glennallen at Delta, with Senior Night noted), wrestling on the 30th and 31st at MCCA in Anchorage, hockey on the 29th (first contest) and the 31st Jumphouse Jamboree hosted by North Pole at Polar Ice, and rifle matches on the 30th (air match at Delta, 6:30–10 am) and 31st (smallbore at TVSA, 11:30 am–6 pm).
  • School links to Delta Elementary School, Delta Junior High School, Delta High School, Delta Greely School District, Gerstle River, Raven Homeschool, and Alaska Homeschool.

To use it: read the menu for the day you need, check the sports list by date and location, and follow the school links for district-level information. The site notes that images can be clicked for enlargements.

Classified Ads: The Tab at the Top of the Page

Classified ads are not shown in full on the homepage. The site directs readers to click on the tab at the top of the page and use the drop-down box to see all classified ads. The homepage shows only a "New Classified Ads Today" preview, which currently includes listings such as Security Officer at Alyeska Pipeline – Denali Universal Services and Supervisory Information Technology Specialist – Dept of the Army.

To use it: start at the top navigation tab, open the drop-down, and select the classified ads view. If you are posting rather than reading, the same area is where the classified section is reached.

Other Sections Worth Knowing

The homepage also carries Photo of the Day entries (for example, chokecherry fruit attracting waxwings and grosbeaks in Delta Junction, credited to Fronty Parker), anniversaries, and DGSD employment information. The top headlines show the range of coverage: BLM's October 27 opening for the winter Fortymile caribou federal subsistence hunt, a DOT&PF student essay contest to name the Tustumena's successor, and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game's annual sport fishing surveys.
