How to Find Obituaries, Public Notices, and the E-Edition on L'Observateur

Updated

L'Observateur's main navigation lists the sections you need directly: Obituaries, Public Notices, Classifieds, and E-Edition all appear in the site menu alongside News, Sports, Opinion, Lifestyle, Contests, Best of River Parishes, Special Sections, and Services. If you are looking for a death notice, a legal notice, or today's paper as published, start with those four labels rather than the news feed.

Where each section lives

What you want Section to open What it contains
Local death notices and funeral information Obituaries Obituary listings for the River Parishes area
Legal and government notices Public Notices Published statutory notices
Paid classified advertising Classifieds Classified ads
The paper as printed E-Edition Electronic version of the day's paper

The homepage also surfaces a "View Today's Paper" link and an "eEdition" entry, which lead to the same electronic edition. A "Read more in..." block points to News, Sports, Opinion, and eEdition, so the e-edition is reachable from more than one place on the page.

Finding obituaries

Select Obituaries in the top navigation. This is the dedicated section for death notices in the LaPlace and broader River Parishes coverage area. Because obituaries are listed as their own menu item rather than folded into News, you do not need to search the general news feed for them.

Finding public notices

Select Public Notices in the top navigation. This section carries the legal notices the paper publishes. It is separate from Classifieds, so if a notice is a statutory or government filing, check Public Notices first; if it is a paid consumer ad, check Classifieds.

Reading the E-Edition

Open E-Edition from the menu, or use the "View Today's Paper" / "eEdition" links on the homepage. This gives you the electronic replica of the printed edition, which is useful when you want the paper in its original layout rather than as individual web stories.

Getting updates

Two subscription-related entry points appear on the site:

  • Subscribe — https://lobservateur.com/subscribe/
  • Newsletter sign-up — https://lobservateur.com/subscribe/newsletter-sign-up/

The site also shows an "Email newsletter signup" block. The pages reference a "subscribe" option but do not state a price or whether access requires payment, so check the Subscribe page itself for current terms before assuming anything about cost or login requirements.

Common snags

  • Obituaries vs. News: recent deaths may also appear as news stories, but the Obituaries section is the structured listing. Check both if a name does not appear where you expect.
  • Public Notices vs. Classifieds: these are distinct sections. A notice filed by a government body belongs under Public Notices; a paid ad belongs under Classifieds.
  • E-Edition vs. individual articles: the e-edition reproduces the print layout. If you only need one story, the section pages (News, Sports, Lifestyle) are faster.
  • Special Sections and Best of River Parishes: these are separate from the four sections above and hold themed or annual content, not obituaries or legal notices.
