How to Find the Right Degree or Program at TTUHSC
Updated
Start at the All Degrees & Programs page on ttuhsc.edu, then narrow your search two ways: by degree level (Undergraduate, Master's, Doctoral, Dual Degrees, Certificates) or by training format (Residencies, Fellowships, Clerkships, Online, Hybrid). If you already know your field of interest, the faster route is to pick one of the six schools first and browse its programs directly.
Two ways to browse
TTUHSC organizes its catalog along two independent axes, and you can enter from either one.
By degree level:
- Undergraduate
- Master's
- Doctoral
- Dual Degrees
- Certificates
By training format:
- Residencies
- Fellowships
- Clerkships
- Online
- Hybrid
These are not the same filter. A residency or clerkship is a clinical training stage rather than a standalone degree, so if you are looking for a program to apply to as a new student, the degree-level list is usually the better starting point. If you are already in clinical training and looking for a next step, the format list is more relevant.
Match your interest to one of the six schools
TTUHSC is made up of six schools, and each covers a different domain. Choosing the school first is the quickest way to cut the catalog down to programs that actually fit your background.
| School | Typical focus |
|---|---|
| School of Medicine | Physician training and medical practice |
| School of Nursing | Nursing practice and advanced nursing roles |
| School of Health Professions | Allied health and rehabilitation fields |
| Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences | Biomedical research and laboratory science |
| Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy | Pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical sciences |
| Julia Jones Matthews School of Population & Public Health | Population health and public health |
If your goal is clinical practice, start with Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, or Health Professions. If your goal is research or a lab-based career, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is the natural entry. If you are interested in health at the community or policy level rather than individual care, look at the School of Population & Public Health.
Check where the program is offered
TTUHSC has locations across Texas, and not every program is available at every site. The listed locations are:
- Abilene
- Lubbock (listed twice on the site)
- Amarillo
- Dallas/Mansfield
- Permian Basin (Midland & Odessa)
Before you commit to a program, confirm which campus hosts it. This matters most for programs with in-person clinical components, where relocation or commuting may be part of the decision.
Decide between online, hybrid, and in-person
The format list separates Online and Hybrid from the rest. Use it this way:
- Online — best if you need to keep working or stay in your current city.
- Hybrid — a mix; expect some required on-site time, so check how often you would need to travel.
- In-person / clinical formats (residencies, fellowships, clerkships) — tied to a specific training site and schedule.
The site does not publish a single comparison of time-to-completion or cost by format, so treat format as a logistics filter first and confirm details with the specific program.
A practical search sequence
- Go to the All Degrees & Programs entry on ttuhsc.edu.
- If you know your field, jump to the relevant school and read its program list.
- If you don't, filter by degree level to see what tiers are open to you.
- Cross-check the format (Online, Hybrid, or on-site) against your constraints.
- Confirm the campus location for anything with a clinical component.
- Use Tuition, Fees & Financial Aid to check cost before applying, since pricing is not shown on the program browsing pages.
Common sticking points
- Confusing training stages with degrees. Residencies, fellowships, and clerkships assume you are already in or past a professional program. Don't treat them as entry points.
- Assuming all six schools offer all degree levels. They don't. Each school's catalog is different, so browse within the school rather than assuming a level exists everywhere.
- Overlooking dual degrees and certificates. These sit outside the standard Master's/Doctoral path and are easy to miss if you only scan the main degree tiers.
What TTUHSC says about itself
For context when weighing the school: the site reports $58.1 million in total research expenditures, 11 programs ranked among the nation's best by U.S. News & World Report, and a top 9.4% placement in the world by the Center for World University Rankings. These are institutional figures, useful as background rather than as a basis for choosing a specific program.
