How to Get Involved with or Donate to DABBGL

Updated

You can support the Dyslexia Association of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich & Lewisham (DABBGL) in three main ways: volunteering (including on its helpline), donating (including through the Mayor of Bromley's Just Giving page), and attending events such as its Open Meeting on 16 September. The right route depends on whether you want to give time, money, or simply turn up and learn more — each is described below with the next step to take.

Donating to DABBGL

DABBGL is a charity, and its site lists several ways to give:

  • Mayor of Bromley's Just Giving page. For 2026 to 2027, the Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Christine Harris, has chosen Madlani Cancer Support and DABBGL as her supported charities. Donations to DABBGL can be made via the Mayor's Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/page/mayor-of-bromley-cllr-christine-harris-dabbgl.
  • The site's own Donate page. The homepage links to a "ways to donate to the DABBGL" page, which sets out the charity's other donation options.
  • Events. The Mayor's support means there will be opportunities to donate at events throughout the year, including the Open Meeting on 16 September.

If you want to give money, the Just Giving page is the most direct route; check the Donate page if you prefer another method.

Volunteering, Including the Helpline

DABBGL is recruiting helpline volunteers. The site states that excellent training and mentoring will be given, but that knowledge of dyslexia and the education system would be an advantage. This suits people who want a structured, people-facing role and can commit to training.

To take the next step, see the Volunteering page for more details, or email [email protected]. The site also lists a telephone contact alongside the email address.

Attending Events

DABBGL runs events through the year, and the Open Meeting on 16 September is highlighted as one of the opportunities to donate and support the charity. The Events page has further details, including how to attend. Attending is the lowest-commitment way to get involved and to hear about other opportunities.

A Note on the Organisation

DABBGL describes its purpose as helping dyslexic people of all ages by providing information and support. Its site also points to a Department for Education list of online educational resources for home learning — identified by educational experts and offered free at the time of publication — which parents may find useful alongside school work. That resource list is separate from DABBGL's own services, so use it as a supplementary tool rather than a replacement for school provision.

For anything not covered here — including current contact details and event specifics — the site's Events, Volunteering and Donate pages are the authoritative next stops.
