How to Join or Manage an SDSD Listserv

Updated

SDSD (South Dakota Services for the Deaf, at sddeaf.org) maintains several listservs that send program information, upcoming trainings, and event announcements. To join or manage a subscription, use the subscription-management links on the SDSD website's listserv section, where each group is listed separately. The site does not publish the individual signup steps, so the exact process depends on the subscription tool each link opens.

What the SDSD listservs cover

The listservs are announcement channels, not discussion forums or clinic services. SDSD states that messages sent on a listserv will include program information and upcoming trainings and events. That makes them useful if you want SDSD news pushed to your inbox rather than checking the site.

Available groups

Listserv Likely audience
SD Birth-3 Providers Early intervention providers serving children from birth to age 3
SDSD Families Families of deaf and hard of hearing children
SDSD Professionals and Stakeholders Professionals and community partners
SDSD Sign Language Group People interested in sign language
SD Special Education Directors Special education directors
SD Superintendents District superintendents

The audience labels above are inferred from the group names; SDSD's page lists the groups but does not describe eligibility rules for each one.

How to join or manage a subscription

  1. Go to sddeaf.org and find the SDSD LISTSERVS section.
  2. Identify the group that matches your role — for example, a parent would start with SDSD Families, while a Birth-3 provider would use SD Birth-3 Providers.
  3. Select that group's subscription-management link. SDSD says to use the links provided to manage subscriptions.
  4. Follow the prompts in the page or form that opens to subscribe, update your email address, or unsubscribe.

Expected result: you receive listserv messages with program information, trainings, and events, or your subscription settings change as requested.

Common snags

  • One link per group. Each listserv has its own link, so subscribing to SDSD Families does not add you to the Professionals list. Repeat the process for each group you want.
  • No published steps. Because SDSD does not document the signup flow, the screens you see may differ from what you expect. If a link does not work, contact SDSD directly (details below) and ask to be added to the relevant list.
  • Unsubscribing. Use the same management link for that group; you do not need to contact SDSD to leave a list.

If the listserv links don't work

SDSD's site notes that its Rapid City Clinic phones are intermittently working, so email or text may be more reliable for West River contacts.

Location Phone Other contact
Sioux Falls Clinic, 4101 W 38th St., Suite 101, Sioux Falls, SD 57106 605-367-5200; Video Phone 605-496-9058 [email protected]
West River Clinic, 2138 Jackson Blvd, Rapid City, SD 57702 605-791-7839; Text 605-799-1945 [email protected]

The page also lists an alternate Rapid City contact for when clinic phones are down: call 605-641-7411, email [email protected], or text 605-799-1745.
