How to Join the Aurora Arabian Horse Association

Updated

You can join the Aurora Arabian Horse Association (AAHA) in one of two ways: as an Associate Member (open to anyone, with a simple form) or as an Adult/Youth Member (either by registering with the Arabian Horse Association and affiliating with AAHA, or by registering directly with AAHA using a form and paying the annual fee). All memberships expire on December 31 each year and are non-transferable, and completed forms are submitted by email to the association.

First, Decide Which Membership Fits You

The AAHA site describes two distinct paths, and they differ mainly in voting rights and registration requirements.

Associate Member Adult / Youth Member
Who can join Anyone passionate about contributing to AAHA or promoting the Arabian horse Adults and youth who register through AHA or directly with AAHA
How to join Complete the Aurora Associate Member Form Option 1: Register with AHA and affiliate with AAHA. Option 2: Register directly with AAHA via form plus annual fee
Meetings & bulletins Can attend meetings and receive bulletins Standard member benefits
Voting Can vote at the AAHA level; no voting rights at AHA conventions or Region 17 AGMs Full member standing per AHA/AAHA rules
Expiration December 31 each year, non-transferable December 31 each year, non-transferable

If your main goal is to support the club, attend meetings, and stay informed, the Associate route is the lighter option. If you want full membership standing—particularly if you intend to participate in AHA-sanctioned activity or Region 17 matters—choose the Adult/Youth route.

How to Join as an Associate Member

  1. Get the form. The Aurora Associate Member Form is available on the AAHA website's membership section.
  2. Complete it. The form is open to anyone who wants to make an outstanding contribution to AAHA or promote the Arabian horse—no horse ownership requirement is stated.
  3. Email it to AAHA. The site instructs applicants to email completed forms to the association's address listed on the membership page.
  4. Confirm your status. Once processed, you can attend meetings and receive bulletins, and you can vote at the AAHA level.

Expected result: Associate membership for the current year, expiring December 31.

How to Join as an Adult or Youth Member

You have two routes:

  • Route 1 — AHA registration plus AAHA affiliation. Register with the Arabian Horse Association (AHA), then affiliate with AAHA. This is the path for members who want to be tied into the broader AHA structure.
  • Route 2 — Direct AAHA registration. Fill out the AAHA membership form and pay the annual fee. The site does not publish the fee amount, so confirm the current rate with the association before submitting.

Either way, email your completed form to the address on the membership page.

Common Snags to Watch For

  • Timing your renewal. Because all memberships expire December 31, joining late in the year gives you a short membership window. Ask whether renewal reminders are sent before year-end.
  • Voting limits for Associates. Associate Members cannot vote at AHA conventions or Region 17 AGMs. If voting at that level matters to you, use the Adult/Youth route instead.
  • Form delivery. The site relies on email submission rather than an online checkout, so keep a copy of what you send and follow up if you don't hear back.
  • Fee confirmation. The direct-registration route involves an annual fee, but the amount isn't listed on the page—request it before completing your form.

Beyond Membership

Joining connects you to more than meetings. AAHA, established in 1965, runs the Aurora All Breed Summer Horse Show (2026 dates: June 4–7 at the Calnash Trucking AG Centre in Ponoka, Alberta) and offers programs including the Aurora Volunteer Program—pitched to youth and college/university applicants building experience—plus clinics, workshops, an "Ask the Judge" section, youth programs, and the Region 17 Directory. If you're joining primarily to show or volunteer, check those sections of the site alongside the membership form.
