How to Join the Northwest Fuchsia Society or Receive the Flash Newsletter

Updated

The Northwest Fuchsia Society (NWFS) offers two paths to membership: become a Member-At-Large to receive the Flash newsletter directly, or join a nearby local society through the "Societies" page. Both routes start from the same website menu. The current online edition of the Flash is the July 2024 issue, and a new Scholarship Application is also posted on the scholarships page.

Membership Options

The NWFS site describes two ways to get involved:

Option What you get Where to go on the site
Member-At-Large Receive the Flash newsletter Click "Membership"
Local society member Join a group near you Click "Societies"

The site's own wording: "If you wish to become a Member-At-Large and get the Flash, click on 'Membership,' or click on 'Societies' and join a nearby, local group!"

Steps to Join

  1. Go to the NWFS website (nwfuchsiasociety.com).
  2. Open the main menu.
  3. Choose one of these:
    • "Membership" — for Member-At-Large status and the Flash.
    • "Societies" — to find and join a local group near you.
  4. Follow the instructions on that page to complete your sign-up.

The site does not publish membership pricing or a login requirement in the available page content, so check the Membership page directly for current terms.

Accessing the Flash Newsletter

The Flash is the NWFS newsletter. The July 2024 online edition is available for reading. Members-At-Large receive it as part of membership. To get access, use the "Membership" link as described above.

Finding a Local Society

If you prefer an in-person group, the "Societies" page connects you to nearby chapters. Several regional societies run their own plant sales and events, which can be a good way to meet members before joining. Examples from the NWFS events calendar include:

  • Eastside Fuchsia Society Sale — Bellevue Botanical Garden, Bellevue, WA
  • Fuchsia Fanciers Spring Sale — Centralia Outlet Mall, Centralia, WA
  • Peninsula Fuchsia Society Sale — Clear Creek Community Center, Silverdale, WA
  • LakeBay Fuchsia Society Sale — Key Peninsula Civic Center, Vaughn, WA
  • Oregon Fuchsia Society Sale — Western Seminary, Portland, OR

These sales are open events, so attending one is a practical way to ask about joining a local group.

Other Pages Worth Checking
