How to Look Up an Airport on OurAirports

Updated

OurAirports gives you four ways to find an airport: type a name or code into the search box, browse by world region or country, use "Near me" to find airports around your current location, or open a random airport entry. The site covers 86,157 airports (and counting), so the fastest method depends on what you already know — a code or name, a place on the map, or nothing at all.

Search by name or code

Use this when you know something specific about the airport.

  1. Go to the search box on the OurAirports homepage.
  2. Enter what you know — an airport name, a city, or an airport code.
  3. Submit the search and pick the correct airport from the results.

The search box is the first option listed on the page, so it works for both partial names and exact codes. If you only remember part of a name, a partial entry is still worth trying before switching to browsing.

Browse by world region or country

Use this when you know roughly where the airport is but not its name or code.

  • Select the "World" option to browse airports by region.
  • Narrow down to a specific country from there.

This path is slower than search but useful when you're exploring an area rather than targeting one airport — for example, planning a trip and wanting to see what airports serve a country.

Find airports near you

Use this when you want airports close to where you are right now.

  • Choose the "Near me" option on the homepage.
  • The site returns airports based on your current location.

This is the practical choice for spontaneous decisions — for example, checking which airport is closest when you're already travelling and need an alternative.

Open a random airport

Use this when you have no particular airport in mind.

  • Select "Random airport" to open an arbitrary entry.

It's mainly useful for exploring how airport entries are structured or for discovering airports you'd never think to search for. It won't help you find a specific airport, so treat it as a browsing tool rather than a lookup method.

Which method to use

Your situation Best option
You know the name or code Search box
You know the country or region only World / country browse
You want airports around your current position Near me
You just want to see an airport entry Random airport

All four options sit on the OurAirports homepage, so you can switch between them without navigating elsewhere. Start with search if you have any identifying detail; fall back to browsing or "Near me" when you don't.
