How to Read This Week's Issue or Past Issues of The Outlook

Updated

The Outlook, Monmouth University's student newspaper, publishes its current issue and its back catalog on the same site at outlook.monmouth.edu. To read the newest issue, use the "Click to View This Week's Issue" link on the homepage. To read older material, go to the Archive section, or browse individual stories by section (News, Sports, Opinion, Features, Lifestyles, Entertainment, Comics, Politics, and others) from the main navigation.

Reading the current week's issue

The homepage is built around the latest edition. The most direct entry point is the "Click to View This Week's Issue" heading, which links to the current issue.

  1. Go to outlook.monmouth.edu.
  2. Find the "Click to View This Week's Issue" link near the top of the page.
  3. Open it to read the current edition.

If you'd rather read story by story, the homepage also lists recent articles as individual posts, each with a headline, date, and section tag. The newest items appear first, so the top of the page effectively doubles as a current-issue index.

Finding past issues

Past coverage is reached through the Archive link in the main navigation, alongside Home. The Archive is where you go when you want an earlier issue rather than the current one.

You can also locate older stories without the Archive by:

  • Browsing a section (for example, News or Sports) and scrolling back through its posts.
  • Using the site search ("Search for:") to look up a topic, name, or event.
  • Opening a section tag on any article to pull up related posts.

One caveat: article dates on the site don't always match the original publication date. Several posts show two dates — for example, an April 22, 2026 posting date alongside a September 24, 2026 update — so if you're trying to pin down when something first ran, treat the earlier date as the likely original and the later one as a revision.

What you'll find in each issue

The paper is organized into standing sections, and each issue draws from them:

Section Typical content
News Campus administration, incidents, university decisions
Sports Game results and team coverage
Opinion Editorials and columns
Features Profiles, campus life, longer reads
Lifestyles Student life and interest pieces
Entertainment Music, film, and culture
Comics Illustrated content
Politics Political coverage
Climate Climate-related reporting
Club & Greek News Student organizations and Greek life
The Verge Additional features content

Recent examples from the homepage show the range: a report on the Campus Store being outsourced to Follett Corporation, coverage of a cybersecurity incident and subsequent lawsuits, a piece on the death of former president Grey Dimenna, and sports results such as women's lacrosse winning on Senior Day.

Practical notes

  • The site is in English and is aimed at the Monmouth University community, though it's publicly readable.
  • Headlines on the homepage are a mix of "Featured (Slider)" and "Featured (List)" items, which just reflects how they're displayed — both link to full articles.
  • If you're looking for a specific story and don't know its section, the search box is faster than browsing the Archive.
  • The Outlook also maintains an editorial presence beyond the site; the homepage notes recognition such as a "Best in Show" award at an ACP conference, which is useful context if you're checking the paper's scope and standards.
