How to Register for Workshops or Buy Seed Garlic at Alaska Botanical Garden
Updated
You can do both online. Workshop registration happens through individual "Register here" links on the event listing, and seed garlic can be ordered online for pickup or bought in person on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11:00am to 6:00pm. The catch is that each workshop has its own registration link and date, so you need to pick the specific session first.
Buying Seed Garlic
There are two ways to get seed garlic from the Garden, and they run on the same weekly schedule.
In person
- When: Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 11:00am – 6:00pm
- Where: The Garden shop
- Varieties available:
- Montana Zemo
- Inchelium Red
- Romanian Red
Online order for pickup
The Garden offers an online order option for pickup. You place the order through the online order link, then collect it during the same Friday–Sunday, 11:00am–6:00pm window. If you want a specific variety, ordering ahead is the safer route since in-person stock isn't guaranteed.
Registering for Workshops
Workshops use individual registration links rather than one central sign-up page. To register, find the workshop you want on the events listing and follow its "Register here" link.
Examples from the current season:
| Workshop | Date & Time | How to register |
|---|---|---|
| Mushroom Cultivation with Far North Fungi | Saturday, October 10th, 11:00am – 1:00pm | Register here link on the event listing |
| Writing from the Threshold of Change (with Debbie Clarke Moderow) | Thursday, October 22nd, 5:30 – 7:00pm | Register here link on the event listing |
| Día de Muertos at the Garden | Saturday, October 31st, 11:00am – 1:00pm and/or Sunday, November 1st, 3:00 – 4:30pm | Register for one or both sessions |
A few things worth noting before you sign up:
- The mushroom workshop is hands-on. Participants build their own oyster mushroom kits to take home in Far North Fungi's mobile lab, so expect a participatory session rather than a lecture.
- Día de Muertos has two separate sessions covering different traditions. You can register for one or both, and each has its own time slot.
- Some events don't require the same registration flow. Fossil Day, for example, is a drop-in style event (Friday, October 16th, 12:00 – 3:00pm) rather than a ticketed workshop.
Other Seasonal Events to Plan Around
If you're already making a trip, these run alongside the workshops:
- BOOtanical: September 11th – October 18th, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 11:00am – 6:00pm. A harvest-themed stroll through the Garden with costumes encouraged, plus programs like Fairy House building, Storytime, and Garlic Day.
- Brighter Winter Nights: begins December 3rd.
Practical Notes
- Check the calendar first. The Garden points visitors to its full calendar of events, which is the most reliable way to confirm dates and find the current registration links.
- Hours and rates are listed on the Plan Your Visit page if you need admission details alongside your workshop or pickup trip.
- Registration links are event-specific. There's no single account or universal sign-up form described, so bookmark each workshop page you register for.
If your goal is seed garlic, the simplest path is to order online for pickup and collect it on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. If your goal is a workshop, open the specific event and use its Register here link before the session fills.
