How to Search for Star Wars Characters and Topics on Wookieepedia
Updated
Type the character, film, or concept name into the search box at the top of any Wookieepedia page and press Enter. The search box is the fastest route to a specific entry, and it works for in-universe subjects (characters, planets, ships, events) as well as real-world ones (films, novels, actors, video games). If you are not sure of the exact spelling or want to browse instead, use the category pages and internal links described below.
Start with the search box
The search field sits in the site header on every page. Enter the name as you know it and submit.
- Exact names work best. "Ahsoka Tano," "Millennium Falcon," and "Battle of Yavin" each land on a dedicated article.
- Partial names still return results. Typing "Ahsoka" brings up the character plus related pages, so you can pick the right one from the results list.
- Search covers article text, not just titles. A term that appears inside an article can surface that page even if it is not the title, which helps when you remember a detail but not the page name.
If the first result is not what you want, scan the rest of the results list before retyping — the target is often a few entries down.
Browse by category when you do not have a name
Category pages group entries by type, which is useful when you want to explore rather than look up one thing.
- Character categories let you move through lists of Jedi, Sith, bounty hunters, and so on.
- Film, novel, and game categories organize real-world media.
- From any category page, click an entry to open it, then use the links inside to keep moving.
This is the better path when you are researching a topic broadly — for example, gathering every character tied to a faction — rather than chasing a single page.
Follow internal links inside articles
Wookieepedia articles are densely linked. Names of people, places, ships, and events inside an article are usually clickable, so you can move from a character to their homeworld, their allies, or a battle they fought in without returning to search. Treat each article as a hub: read the section you need, then follow the links that match your next question.
Watch for same-name and version differences
Two things commonly send readers to the wrong page:
- Shared names. Different characters, ships, or locations can share a name. Check the short description under each search result to confirm you have the right one.
- Canon vs. Legends. Wookieepedia covers both the current canon and the older Legends continuity, and the same subject can have separate articles for each. If a page does not match what you remember, look for the corresponding article in the other continuity.
Confirming the continuity and the exact subject before you start reading saves you from citing the wrong version.
Quick reference
| Goal | Best method |
|---|---|
| Find one known character, film, or concept | Search box |
| Explore a group (all Jedi, all films) | Category pages |
| Move from a character to related people, places, events | Internal links in the article |
| Resolve a name shared by multiple subjects | Read result descriptions, then open the right one |
| Match the version you remember | Check whether the page is canon or Legends |
Once you are on the correct article, its internal links and categories let you continue without going back to the search box.
