How to Separate a Song into Stems with Melody ML

Updated

Melody ML turns a song into separate vocal, drum, bass, and instrumental tracks using machine learning, and the whole job usually finishes in 1–20 minutes. You can use it if your file is 100 MB or smaller, no longer than 10 minutes, and in MP3, WAV, FLAC, or Ogg/Vorbis format. After two free songs, each additional song costs $0.50, and processed files stay downloadable for one month.

What you need before uploading

  • A supported file: MP3, WAV, FLAC, or Ogg/Vorbis.
  • Within the limits: maximum 100 MB and maximum 10 minutes. Files that are too long or in the wrong format are the two reasons a song shows an error.
  • An account: you can create one with an email address or with Google, and log in before or during the process.
  • Credits if you've passed the free allowance: the first 2 songs are free, then each song costs $0.50. Credits are sold in bundles of 10 songs for $5, 20 songs for $10, or 50 songs for $20, paid by Visa/debit card or PayPal.

Step-by-step: from upload to stems

  1. Create an account or log in. Use the sign-up form or "Create account with Google." If you already have an account, log in; there's also a reset-password option if you're locked out.
  2. Add credits if needed. If you've used your 2 free songs, add credits before uploading. The checkout page offers the 10/20/50-song bundles above.
  3. Upload your song. Select the file and start the separation. The tool isolates vocals, drums, bass, and other instruments.
  4. Wait for processing. The page tells you the song is being processed and that this can take 1–20 minutes. You can refresh the page and come back later — you don't have to keep the tab open.
  5. Download your stems. Once processing is complete, each generated track appears in your uploads list with a Download option. You can also remove an upload from the list.
  6. Download within one month. Processed files are available for 1 month, so save your stems locally before they expire.

What you get

Melody ML produces separated tracks for the parts it detects — vocals, drums, bass, and other instruments — so you can remix or reuse individual elements. The processing is based on Demucs.

Common questions and snags

Why did my song show an error? Almost always because the file is too long (over 10 minutes) or in the wrong format. Check both before re-uploading.

How long should I expect to wait? Between 1 and 20 minutes. Longer songs and busier servers push you toward the upper end, so refreshing and returning later is normal.

Do I keep the rights to my uploads? Yes — users take copyright and legal responsibility for their uploads, and Melody ML states it does not own, share, or take authorship of uploaded songs.

What happens to my email? It's stored for basic functionality. Stripe and PayPal handle payment details, and Melody ML says it does not share your email or send spam.

Is there a free option? The first 2 songs are free; after that, each song costs $0.50.
