How to Start Playing a Live Drawing Game on Drawize

Updated

You can start a live Drawize round in about ten seconds: open drawize.com, pick Play now with others to jump into a random live game, or Create Private Room to play with people you invite. Neither option requires an account — you play as a guest. Once the round starts, players take turns being the artist (choose a word, then draw it) or the guesser (type what you think the drawing shows).

Two ways to start

The homepage asks "How do you want to play?" and gives you two buttons. They lead to the same game with different matchmaking:

Play now with others Create Private Room
Who you play with Random players online Your friends or group
When it starts Immediately When everyone has joined
Sign-up needed No No
Best for Filling a few minutes, playing solo Classrooms, offices, friend groups

If you just want to try the game, choose the live option — the page notes that your seat is ready and the round starts right away. If you want to control who's in the game, create a private room and share the invite with your group.

Playing a live round

  1. Join the game. Click Play now with others for a random match, or Create Private Room and wait for your group.
  2. Wait for your turn. The game rotates the artist role. When someone else is drawing, your job is to guess — the answer stays hidden until someone gets it or the round ends.
  3. When you're the artist, pick a word. The game prompts you with "Please select a word to draw!" and offers a few choices (for example, volcano, flamingo, castle). Choose one, then draw it on the canvas.
  4. Guessers type their answers. A correct guess scores points — the sample round on the site shows a guess worth +100 — and the round moves on.
  5. Keep going. Rounds cycle through new artists and new words until you leave.

The site also mentions Quick Draw and Quick Guess practice modes inside private rooms, which let you drill the two halves of the game separately before playing live.

What you need

  • A browser. Drawize runs in the browser with no download.
  • Nothing else to get started — no account, no sign-up. You can play as a guest.
  • If you want to remove ads or unlock extra tools and colors, the site links to a Premium section (with Business and Classroom variants). Pricing isn't shown on the pages referenced here, so check those links directly if you're considering it.

Common snags

  • "Please select a word to draw!" won't go away — you're the artist and the round is waiting on you. Pick one of the offered words to start your turn.
  • Nobody can guess your drawing — stick to the word's obvious features rather than drawing a scene around it. The guessers only see the canvas, not the word.
  • You want a specific group, not strangers — don't use the live button; create a private room instead and invite people there.
  • You're using this for a class or team — the private room flow is the one designed for that, and the site points to a Classroom option under Premium for teaching use.

Beyond the main game, the site lists extras like CopyCatAI (replicate an image and get AI feedback), Drawize Phone (a telephone-style drawing game), and daily bonuses that unlock new tools and colors. None of these are required to play a live round — they're side activities if you want more after your first game.
