How to Stay Updated With and Support the Art Gallery of Ballarat

Updated

The Art Gallery of Ballarat's main building at 40 Lydiard St Nth is closed for building upgrades, so the usual in-person visit and Gallery Shop are unavailable right now. You can still keep up with the Gallery and support it in three ways: subscribe to its newsletter, follow it on Instagram or Facebook, and use the Donate option on its website. Its exhibitions have also moved to temporary venues — Backspace Gallery at 43 Mair St, Art Screen, and the Mining Exchange — so there is still something to see in person.

Get news and updates

The Gallery's website (artgalleryofballarat.com.au) is the hub for everything currently happening. From there you can:

  • Join the newsletter — the site has a "Get our newsletter" option, which is the most direct way to receive announcements about building works, new exhibitions, and events.
  • Read Stories and What's new — this section carries news updates and artist features. Current items include "Local builder to commence works at Art Gallery of Ballarat," "Behind the Scenes," a Noriko Nakamura story, a Kate Beynon interview, and pieces on the Vizard Collection and a Wadawurrung deep dive.
  • Check What's on — the Events and Exhibitions listings show what is running and where.

Follow on social media

The Gallery maintains an active presence on:

  • Instagram
  • Facebook

These are linked from the website and are useful for quick updates, exhibition images, and event reminders between newsletter issues.

See exhibitions while the main building is closed

The main building's closure does not mean the collection is inaccessible. Current exhibitions listed on the site are all free:

Exhibition Cost
Shaun Gladwell Free
Chelle Destefano Free
Georgina Matherson Free
Marylou Verberne Free

Visit these at Backspace Gallery, 43 Mair St, Ballarat, or at Art Screen and the Mining Exchange. The Gallery Shop has also relocated — the site directs visitors to the shop at Backspace Gallery while the main building is upgraded.

Support the Gallery

  • Donate — a Donate option appears in the site's main menu.
  • Shop — buying from the shop (currently at Backspace Gallery) supports the Gallery directly. The site highlights "Shop new arrivals."
  • Attend — the free exhibitions at the temporary venues keep public engagement going during the closure.
