How to Submit a Story Suggestion to PNW Pioneer
Updated
To submit a story idea to PNW Pioneer, use the Story Suggestions form on the site. You'll need to enter a PNW email address and a description of your suggestion, then submit it. The form is meant for coverage ideas — not general inquiries.
What the Form Asks For
The Story Suggestions section appears on the PNW Pioneer site with the prompt: "Have a story you want covered on The Pioneer? Let us know!" Based on the form fields shown on the page, you provide:
| Field | Requirement | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PNW Email | Required | Use your Purdue University Northwest email address |
| Suggestions | Required | Describe the story you want covered |
There is also a hidden validation field on the form that visitors don't fill in themselves.
Steps to Submit
- Go to pnwpioneer.com and find the Story Suggestions section.
- Enter your PNW email address in the email field.
- Write your suggestion in the Suggestions field — be specific about the story, event, or person you think deserves coverage.
- Click Submit.
Expected result: your suggestion goes to The Pioneer's editorial team for review. The site does not state a response time or confirm whether every suggestion will be covered.
Common Pitfalls
- Using a non-PNW email. The field is labeled "PNW Email (Required)," so a personal address may not be accepted.
- Sending general inquiries. The form is for coverage ideas; questions unrelated to a story aren't its purpose.
- Vague suggestions. Since the only content field is a free-text description, include enough detail (who, what, when, where) for editors to evaluate the idea.
What PNW Pioneer Covers
Knowing the site's scope helps you frame a suggestion. Recent stories on the homepage include campus news (a backpack donation to 1,000 families, a nickname change, a program slated for elimination), student life and profiles, sports (a junior named GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the debut season of a flag football team), and opinion or national-interest pieces written by students. Suggestions that fit these categories — campus events, student achievements, university decisions, athletics, and student perspectives — align with what The Pioneer publishes.
