How to Upload and Share a File with Uguu

Updated

Uguu is a temporary file hosting service that requires no account. To use it, open uguu.se, drop or paste your file onto the page, and after the upload finishes you get a link you can share. Two limits decide whether it works for you: the maximum upload size is 128 MiB, and files expire after 3 hours. If your file is larger than 128 MiB or needs to stay online longer than 3 hours, Uguu is not the right tool.

What you need before uploading

  • A file no larger than 128 MiB. This is a hard cap, so check the size before you start.
  • The awareness that the file will be deleted after 3 hours. Anyone who still needs it after that must have downloaded it already.
  • A browser. There is no app, no sign-up, and no login step.

Step-by-step: upload and get a share link

  1. Open uguu.se in your browser.
  2. Add your file using either method the page supports:
    • Drag the file from your file manager and drop it onto the page.
    • Paste the file (for example, copy a file or image and paste it into the page).
  3. Wait for the upload to finish. The page shows a progress state while the file transfers.
  4. Copy the link that appears once the upload completes. That link is what you send to other people.

The expected result: the recipient opens the link and downloads the file, as long as they do it within the 3-hour window.

Sharing and expiry: what to tell the people you send it to

The link is only useful for 3 hours. If you are sending a file to someone in a different time zone or someone who checks messages slowly, say so explicitly — for example, "this link dies in 3 hours, download it today." There is no way to extend the lifetime from the page, so plan around the window rather than assuming the file will still be there later.

Common snags

  • Upload rejected or stalls: the file is most likely over 128 MiB. Compress it, split it, or use a service built for larger files.
  • Link stops working: the 3 hours have passed. Re-upload the file to generate a new link.
  • Recipient can't find the file: confirm they are using the exact link and that the window has not closed.

When Uguu fits and when it doesn't

Situation Uguu works?
Quick one-off share of a file under 128 MiB Yes
File needs to stay available for days No — 3-hour expiry
File is larger than 128 MiB No — size cap
You don't want to create an account Yes — no sign-up required

Uguu is free to use and keeps running on donations, with no ads or tracking, so there is no paid tier to unlock larger files or longer retention. Treat it as a short-lived handoff, not storage.
