How to Use Findchips to Search Electronic Parts, Prices, and Stock

Updated

Findchips is a distributor-agnostic electronic part search engine: enter a full or partial manufacturer part number (at least 3 letters or digits) and it returns pricing, stock, and part data aggregated from distributors and manufacturers in one place. Use it when you need to check availability or compare prices across suppliers; use parametric search instead when you know the specs you need but not the exact part number.

Searching by Part Number

The main search box accepts three input styles, each suited to a different situation:

Input style Example When to use it
Exact part number 1N4148W-TP You have the complete MPN and want a precise match
Partial part number MPC564 You know part of the number or want to see variants
Keyword or series microcontroller, BAV99 You're exploring a category or a part family

The search field requires a minimum of 3 characters, so very short fragments won't run. Results lead to part detail pages, where the real work happens.

Reading a Part Detail Page

The part details view is where pricing, stock, and technical data come together. Per Findchips' own description, the detail tabs cover:

  • Attributes — the part's technical specifications
  • Alternates — substitute parts
  • Pricing and availability — offers broken out by distributor, so you can see who has stock and at what price

This is the page to land on when you need a single view of "who has this part, how many, and for how much" rather than checking each distributor's site separately.

Narrowing Down with Parametric Search

When you don't have a part number, use the parametric search. It lets you browse by part category and filter by part attributes to shrink a broad field of components down to a shortlist. A practical flow:

  1. Pick the relevant part category (e.g., the component type you need).
  2. Apply attribute filters that match your requirements.
  3. Open promising results in the part details view to confirm pricing and stock.

This is the better entry point for design-stage selection; part-number search is better for procurement-stage checks.

Setting Part Alerts

For any specific manufacturer part number, you can set an alert on stock and price changes and receive email notifications based on your settings. This is useful for long-lead parts or when you're waiting for stock to return. Set the alert from the part you're tracking, then rely on the email rather than re-checking manually.

Comparing Two Parts

The part comparison feature gives procurement and engineering teams a side-by-side view of the similarities and differences between any two part numbers. Typical uses: validating a proposed substitute before approving it, or confirming that two near-identical part numbers differ only in packaging or tolerance. Enter the two parts and review the detailed breakdown.

Tariff Estimator

Findchips also offers a Tariff Estimator that provides part-level tariff estimates to inform purchasing decisions. It's accessible from the part details page — relevant if you're evaluating landed cost rather than just unit price.

Quick Decision Guide

  • Have the exact MPN? Search it directly and read the detail page for price and stock by distributor.
  • Know the specs but not the part? Start with parametric search and filter by category and attributes.
  • Need to watch availability over time? Set a part alert for email notifications.
  • Considering a substitute? Run a part comparison before committing.
  • Estimating total cost? Check the Tariff Estimator on the part details page.

One practical note: the site displays an offline notice when your connection drops, so if search results fail to load, check your connection and retry before assuming the part isn't listed.
