How to Use TikTok LIVE Chat Reader to Read a Live Stream's Chat and Generate an Overlay URL

Before you start
- The account you want to read must be currently streaming on TikTok LIVE. The reader has nothing to show for an offline account.

@. - Use a desktop browser, since the overlay URL is mainly useful for streaming software like OBS.
Reading a live chat
- Open the reader page.
- In the field labeled "Enter the @username of a user who is currently live," type the host's username.
- Submit the username. The page then connects to that broadcast and begins forwarding events to your browser.
- Watch the Chats panel for comments and the Gifts panel for gift events. Other LIVE events are forwarded through the same connection.
If the host is live and the username is correct, messages should appear as viewers send them. If nothing arrives, see the troubleshooting section below.
Controlling the chat and gift feeds
Both the Chats and Gifts sections have their own Auto-scroll toggle, shown as ON by default.

Generating an overlay URL
- With a live username entered, click Generate Overlay URL.
- Copy the resulting link.
- Add it as a browser source in your streaming software (for example, OBS) to display the chat on your stream.
The overlay URL is the intended way to reuse the same chat feed outside the reader page itself.
Common problems and fixes
- Nothing appears after submitting a username. The most common cause is that the account is not live. Confirm the broadcast is actually running before retrying.
- Wrong account. Double-check the spelling of the username; a typo points the reader at a different or nonexistent account.
- Events stop or the page goes quiet. The reader uses the unofficial TikTok API, so it can be limited or broken by changes on TikTok's side. Reloading and re-entering the username is the first thing to try.
- Overlay shows nothing in your streaming software. Make sure the host is still live when the overlay loads, since the feed depends on an active broadcast.
