How to Use typings.gg's Redo, Back, and Theme Options

Updated

typings.gg is a browser-based typing test. After a test ends, three controls matter most: redo restarts a test, back returns you to the previous screen, and themes changes the site's color scheme. All three are reachable from the results screen, where the site also shows your WPM and ACC scores and links to a user guide and themes page.

Where the Controls Appear

The site's results area displays your scores alongside the navigation options:

  • WPM: XX / ACC: XX — your words-per-minute and accuracy for the completed test
  • redo — run the test again
  • < back — go back to the prior screen
  • user guide / themes — links to documentation and the theme selector

The test itself offers durations of 15, 30, 60, 120, or 240 seconds, and word counts of 10, 25, 50, 100, or 250 words.

Using Redo

redo restarts a typing test. Use it when you want another attempt without navigating away from the test screen.

  1. Finish a test and let the results appear.
  2. Select redo.
  3. A new test begins, and you type again from the start.

Expected result: a fresh test with reset WPM and ACC counters. If you want a different duration or word count before retrying, adjust the test settings first, then start the test again.

Using Back

< back returns you to the previous screen — for example, from the results view back to the test setup or main screen. Use it when you're done reviewing your scores and want to change modes rather than immediately retry.

Expected result: you leave the current results view and land on the prior screen, where you can pick a new duration or word count.

Changing Themes

typings.gg supports many custom themes, and the themes link on the results screen opens the theme section.

  1. Complete or exit a test so the results screen is visible.
  2. Select themes.
  3. Choose a theme from the available options.

Expected result: the site's appearance updates to the selected theme. Because theme availability is managed by the site, the exact list may change; check the themes section for what's currently offered.

Checking the User Guide

The user guide link opens the site's own documentation. Use it if a control behaves unexpectedly or you want details on features beyond redo, back, and themes. It's the most reliable reference for how the site is intended to work.

Quick Reference

Control What it does When to use it
redo Restarts the typing test You want another attempt right away
< back Returns to the previous screen You want to change test settings or leave results
themes Opens theme selection You want a different visual style
user guide Opens site documentation You need help with a feature

Common Snags

  • Redo starts the same test type. If you wanted a different duration or word count, go back and change the settings before retrying.
  • Themes may not persist across sessions. Theme behavior depends on the site; if your choice resets, reselect it from the themes section.
  • Scores reset on redo. WPM and ACC reflect only the most recent completed test, so note your results before restarting if you're tracking progress.
