Is Component Creator free, and what do paid plans add?
Updated
Component Creator is free for single-table components, and paid plans start at €19/month for unlimited tables plus technical support. So the real question isn't "free or paid" — it's how many tables your component needs. If your idea fits in one table, you can build and download it without paying. If it needs two or more related tables, you'll need a paid plan.
What the free tier actually gives you
The site states it plainly: "Completely free to use for single table components." That's the whole condition. A single-table component is a real, installable Joomla component — not a demo or a locked preview — so you can use the free tier for:
- A simple CRUD component (create, read, update, delete) in both admin and front end
- A quick prototype to show a client before committing to a build
- A base to hand to a developer for further work
The free tier is not a trial with an expiry date. The limit is structural: one table.
What paid plans add
| Dimension | Free | Paid (from €19/month) |
|---|---|---|
| Tables | Single table only | Unlimited tables |
| Technical support | Not included | Included |
| AI generation | Not specified for free | Complex components with 20+ tables and hundreds of fields, with relationships |
| Code output | Joomla MVC, standard-compliant | Same |
| Field types | 40+ | 40+ |
| Admin + front end CRUD | Yes | Yes |
| ACL integration | Yes | Yes |
The two things you're actually buying are table count and support. Everything else — the MVC code, the 40+ field types, the admin/front-end CRUD, ACL integration — is described as part of the product generally, not as a paid-only feature.
How to decide
Work backwards from your data model, not from the price.
Stay free if: your component manages one kind of record. A testimonials manager, a simple download list, a single product catalogue with no variants — one table covers it.
Pay if any of these are true:
- Your component needs two or more tables that relate to each other (for example, orders and order lines, or events and attendees)
- You need someone to answer when the generated code doesn't do what you expected
- You're delivering to a client and want a support channel behind the deliverable
- You're rebuilding a complex Joomla 3 component and the original had multiple tables
The site notes the tool is "great for upgrading custom Joomla 3 components to Joomla 4, 5 & 6" — and most real-world custom components that are worth upgrading have more than one table. That's the scenario where the €19/month is easiest to justify.
A practical path
- Sign up free and model your component as a single table, even if you know you'll need more later.
- Generate and download it. Install it on a test Joomla site and confirm the admin and front-end CRUD behave the way you want.
- If the single-table version is genuinely enough, stop there. You've paid nothing.
- If you hit the table limit, upgrade. By that point you've already validated the workflow and know the paid tier is buying you a real constraint removal, not a promise.
The €19/month figure is the entry point for unlimited tables and support as stated on the site. Check the pricing page for current tiers before committing, since plan structures change.
What the free tier does not tell you
The site doesn't publish a table limit for the free tier beyond "single table," and it doesn't say whether the AI generator (the 20+ table feature) is available on free accounts. If AI generation is the reason you're interested, treat that as a paid-tier feature until you confirm otherwise on the pricing page.
One more thing worth knowing: Component Creator was acquired by Duck Meets Goose in December 2025. The site frames this as long-term ownership of an established product, which matters if you're deciding whether to build a dependency on it — the stated intent is continuity, not shutdown.
