Is PineconeMC Safe to Download and Where Should You Get It?

Updated

PineconeMC is safe to download if you get it from one of its official sources: pineconemc.ru, elyprismlauncher.github.io, or the ElyPrismLauncher/Launcher repository. The project also states that you can review and build the launcher's source code yourself, which is the strongest way to verify what you're running. Any copy obtained elsewhere should be treated as unverified.

Official sources

Source What it is
pineconemc.ru The project's own website
elyprismlauncher.github.io Project site (the launcher was formerly called ElyPrismLauncher)
ElyPrismLauncher/Launcher Source repository, where you can review and build the code

If a download link comes from a forum post, a video description, a file-hosting mirror, or a "repack" site, it is not one of these sources. The project's own safety statement is conditional: it says the launcher is safe when downloaded from official sources such as the three above.

Why source availability matters here

PineconeMC is a fork of Prism Launcher that adds integrated Ely.by account support. Because it is a modified build distributed outside the official Prism Launcher channels, the usual advice for any fork applies: the trustworthiness of your copy depends entirely on where it came from. Building from the repository removes that dependency, since you compile the code you inspected.

Things to know before you install

  • Don't ask about it in Prism Launcher's spaces. The project explicitly asks users not to post PineconeMC questions on the official Prism Launcher GitHub or Discord. Questions about the fork belong on PineconeMC's own Discord (and, per the project, not on GitHub Issues either).
  • Windows 10 is the minimum. If you're on an older Windows version, the project points to Legacy Launcher as a lightweight alternative.
  • A fresh account is required. If the launcher starts in demo mode, the fix is to create a new account — either an Ely.by account or an offline one.
  • Ely.by accounts limit where you can play. They work on servers with online-mode=false. Ely.by also doesn't support capes; the official Minecraft account system does, so capes require mods.
  • Downloads can stall for network reasons. If the game download sticks at some percentage, your country or ISP may be blocking the required download servers; the project suggests trying a VPN.
  • Moving the launcher is easiest with portable builds, which bundle dependencies and instances into one folder you can relocate.

A quick check before running it

  1. Confirm the address in your browser is exactly pineconemc.ru or elyprismlauncher.github.io — not a lookalike domain.
  2. If you want full verification, clone ElyPrismLauncher/Launcher, read the code, and build it yourself.
  3. Skip any download that arrives as a re-upload, an ad-shortened link, or a bundled installer from a third party.

For most users, downloading from pineconemc.ru and confirming the domain is enough. For anyone handling accounts they care about, building from source is the option that doesn't rely on trusting the distributor at all.
