Rowan Oak Opening Hours and Closures

Updated

Rowan Oak, William Faulkner's home in Oxford, Mississippi, is open year-round except Mondays. Standard hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10am–4pm, and Sunday, 1pm–4pm. From June 1 through July 31, closing time extends to 5pm on those same days. Mondays are closed year-round, including during the summer extension.

Standard vs. Summer Hours

Period Tuesday–Saturday Sunday Monday
Rest of year 10am–4pm 1pm–4pm Closed
June 1–July 31 10am–5pm 1pm–5pm Closed

The only difference in the summer window is the extra hour in the afternoon. Opening times stay the same.

Admission and Access Notes

  • House admission is $10 per person, cash only.
  • Free admission: children 12 and under, University of Mississippi students, faculty, and staff, and University Museum members.
  • No tour reservations are needed for individuals or small groups.

Group Visits (10 or More)

Groups of 10 or more should arrange ahead:

  • Call 662-234-3284 or email [email protected].
  • Contact at least two weeks in advance.
  • Group size limit is 80 guests; only 40 people are allowed inside the house at one time.

Grounds and Photography Timing

The grounds are pet friendly (leashed, with cleanup required), and they are occasionally closed for private events, so it's worth calling ahead before a visit focused on the grounds. For photo shoots during business hours, rates apply: portrait photography is $10 per person, per hour; proposal/engagement sessions are $120 per hour; weddings are $250 per hour — all cash only. There is no charge for photo shoots on the grounds before or after business hours, or on Mondays when the site is closed.

Common Planning Pitfalls

  • Assuming Monday works because the site is "open year-round" — it is closed every Monday.
  • Showing up in summer expecting the 4pm close — June and July run to 5pm.
  • Arriving with a group of 10+ without the two-week advance arrangement.
  • Bringing a card for house admission — it is cash only.
