Sunday Worship Services at the Cathedral Church of Saint Luke

Updated

The Cathedral Church of Saint Luke in Orlando holds three Sunday Eucharists, each with a distinct character. The 8 a.m. service uses traditional Rite I language without incense and is accompanied by pipe organ. The 10:15 a.m. service is the principal Sunday liturgy: Rite II contemporary language, incense, pipe organ and other instruments, the Cathedral Choir and Choristers, and a livestream on Facebook and YouTube; Children's Church and a nursery are offered. The 6 p.m. service uses Rite II contemporary language without incense and features guitar and piano. Choose the 8 a.m. for quiet traditional worship, the 10:15 a.m. for full music and the livestream option, or the 6 p.m. for a relaxed evening service.

8 a.m. — Holy Eucharist, Rite I

This is the most traditional of the three services. The liturgy uses Rite I language, there is no incense, and the music is pipe organ. It suits worshippers who prefer the older prayer-book language and a quieter atmosphere.

The Dean's Hour follows this service at 9 a.m., when the Dean and Cathedral clergy teach on a variety of topics. The cathedral asks visitors to sign up for the newsletter to stay updated on classes, so check the newsletter or the church's news and events page if you want to attend a session.

10:15 a.m. — Holy Eucharist, Rite II

This is the fullest service of the day. It uses contemporary Rite II language and includes incense. Music draws on the pipe organ, additional instruments, and the Cathedral Choir and Choristers. Children's Church and a nursery are offered, which makes this the natural choice for families with young children.

If you cannot attend in person, this service is livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube. Bulletins are also available online, so you can follow along from home.

6 p.m. — Holy Eucharist, Rite II

The evening service uses contemporary Rite II language without incense. Music is led by guitar and piano rather than the organ and choir. It offers a more informal end to the Sunday and may suit those who cannot make a morning service.
