What age sections does 2nd Orpington Scout Group offer?

Updated

2nd Orpington Scout Group runs four age sections covering boys and girls from age 6 to 18: Beavers (6–8), Cubs (8–10½), Scouts (10½–14) and Explorers (14–18). Each section has its own meeting nights, so the right choice depends on your child's age and which evening suits your family.

Section ages and meeting nights

Section Ages Meeting nights
Beavers 6 to 8 Tuesday and Wednesday evenings
Cubs 8 to 10½ Monday and Tuesday evenings
Scouts 10½ to 14 Wednesday and Friday evenings
Explorers 14 to 18 Thursday evenings

The group describes itself as one of the largest in Bromley Scout District, with its own modern headquarters and a large selection of camping and activity equipment. It runs an active programme of weekly meetings, camps and other activities throughout the year.

How the sections fit together

The sections form a progression: a child typically moves up as they reach the upper age of their current section. Note that Beavers and Cubs both meet on Tuesdays, and Cubs and Scouts both meet on Wednesdays — so if you have children in different sections, some evenings may overlap.

  • Beavers has two colonies, meeting Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Cubs has two packs, meeting Monday and Tuesday.
  • Scouts has two troops, meeting Wednesday and Friday.
  • Explorers has a single unit meeting Thursday.

Group identity

The group scarf is blue with a red border, which replaced the original plain blue design. The group motto is "Second to None", and it has existed since almost the beginning of Scouting.

Getting involved or asking questions

If you want to join or volunteer, the group asks you to email [email protected]. The site also notes that Quartermasters look after the facilities and equipment — a route for adults interested in supporting behind the scenes rather than leading a section.
