What are Melody ML's file requirements and supported formats?

Updated

Melody ML accepts MP3, WAV, FLAC, and Ogg/Vorbis files, with a maximum file size of 100 MB and a maximum song length of 10 minutes. If your upload is longer than 10 minutes or uses a different format, the song will show an error instead of processing. These limits come from Melody ML's own FAQ, so they are the numbers to check before you upload.

Why uploads fail

Melody ML's FAQ states that a song shows an error when it is either too long or in the wrong format. Those are the two failure conditions the site names, so if a track won't process, check the duration and the file extension first.

A few practical notes on each:

  • Length. The 10-minute cap applies to the song itself, not the file size. A long DJ mix or a full live set will be rejected even if the file is small.
  • Format. MP3, WAV, FLAC, and Ogg/Vorbis are accepted. Other common containers and codecs (for example, AAC/M4A or WMA) are not listed as supported, so convert to one of the four accepted formats before uploading.
  • Size. 100 MB is generous for a 10-minute track in MP3 or Ogg/Vorbis, but a 10-minute WAV or FLAC can approach or exceed it. If a lossless file is too large, exporting to MP3 or Ogg/Vorbis at a reasonable bitrate usually brings it under the limit without affecting stem separation much.

What happens after a valid upload

Once a file passes those checks, Melody ML processes it with a model based on Demucs and separates the track into vocals, drums, bass, and other/instrumental stems. The site notes processing can take 1–20 minutes, and you can refresh the page and come back later to download the stems. Processed files stay available for download for 1 month, so download your stems rather than leaving them in the account.

Before you upload: a quick checklist

  1. Confirm the file is MP3, WAV, FLAC, or Ogg/Vorbis.
  2. Confirm the song is 10 minutes or shorter.
  3. Confirm the file is 100 MB or smaller.
  4. Upload and wait 1–20 minutes, then download the stems within the 1-month window.

If a track fails, the most likely causes are duration over 10 minutes or an unsupported format — fix one of those and try again.
