What Are MILCC and the IBCLC Care Awards?
Updated
MILCC and the IBCLC Care Awards are two separate programs associated with IBLCE, the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. MILCC (Monetary Investment for Lactation Consultant Certification) works to remove financial barriers to accessing the IBCLC credential. The IBCLC Care Awards recognize maternity and community-based facilities worldwide that hire currently certified IBCLCs. Both are described on iblce.org, where each has its own "Learn more" link.
MILCC: Removing Financial Barriers
MILCC's stated purpose is to remove financial barriers to accessing the IBCLC credential. It does this by:
- Fostering inclusiveness
- Promoting philanthropy
- Increasing public awareness of the value of the IBCLC
If cost is the obstacle between you and pursuing or maintaining IBCLC certification, MILCC is the program to look into first. The IBLCE site points visitors to a dedicated MILCC page for details.
IBCLC Care Awards: Recognizing Facilities
The IBCLC Care Awards recognize maternity and community-based facilities worldwide that hire currently certified International Board Certified Lactation Consultant® (IBCLC®) certificants.
This is a facility-facing recognition rather than an individual credential. If you work at — or are choosing care at — a maternity or community-based facility, the award signals that the facility employs currently certified IBCLCs.
