What Are the Different Game Modes in Musicle?

Updated

Musicle has two core game modes: Regular and Royale. Regular is the original, forgiving mode — you hear one song and pick its album from four options. Royale is the high-stakes version — you hear six songs and must match each one from nine options without a single mistake. Choose Regular if you want a relaxed daily puzzle; choose Royale if you want a harder, no-mistake challenge.

Regular mode: the original Musicle

Regular is described on the site as "the original Musicle." The loop is simple:

  • Listen to a sample of one track.
  • Choose the correct album from 4 options.
  • Tap "My guess" to submit and see whether you were right.

The site's How to Play text explains the broader flow: you guess the album by hearing a sample of one of its tracks, and there are three secret albums to guess each day. After you guess one, the next appears in a new column to the right. You can tap the play icon to hear the sample, tap the album cover to enlarge it and read its details, and then submit your guess.

Regular suits you if you want a quick, low-pressure round where a wrong guess doesn't end your run.

Royale mode: more music, no mercy

Royale is the tougher mode. The site's own tagline for it is "More music, more thrill, no mercy."

  • Listen to 6 songs.
  • Choose each answer from 9 options.
  • Don't get any wrong — the mode is built around avoiding mistakes.

Because you're matching six tracks against a larger pool of nine choices each, Royale demands both broader album knowledge and more careful listening than Regular. It's the mode to pick when the four-option format starts feeling too easy.

Flavors and modes are separate choices

Don't confuse modes with flavors. Musicle's welcome screen says it "comes in several flavors," and the site lists Jazz, classical, soundtracks and more — "there's plenty of Musicle for every taste." So you pick a mode (Regular or Royale) and a flavor (genre) independently. You can also toggle to view and share your stats across all flavors at once.

Picking the right mode for you

  • New to Musicle or short on time? Start with Regular — one song, four options, three albums a day.
  • Want a real test? Switch to Royale and try to run six songs clean.
  • Chasing a specific genre? Choose your flavor first, then decide whether you want the relaxed or no-mercy version of it.

Both modes are free to play in the browser. The site also offers Musicle Premium, a one-time payment that removes ads for a lifetime on a single device — note that the site states premium status is tied to that device and that clearing browsing history or changing browsers requires a new contribution.
