What Aikido Practice Involves Here

The dojo describes Aikido as a martial art that promotes the harmony of mind, body, and spirit. It is characterized by graceful, flowing, circular movements that redirect an opponent's energy into a controlled throw or pin, defusing a hostile situation rather than meeting force with force.

Because the art is based on redirection rather than strength, the site states it is suitable for people of any age and body type, and that anyone at any fitness level can benefit.

Who Can Practice

According to the site's own description, Aikido at Albany Aikido is open to all people regardless of age, body type, or fitness level. The presence of a dedicated kids' program indicates separate instruction is available for children, while the general classes serve adults.
