What Content and Languages Can Kagi Translate Handle?

Updated

Kagi Translate accepts two kinds of input: plain text up to 20,000 characters, and a URL that it translates for you. It detects the source language automatically and lets you pick a target language — Simplified Chinese is one of the options shown on the page. To use it, the site asks you to create a free account.

Input types it supports

The input box on translate.kagi.com is built around two modes, both sharing the same 20,000-character counter:

  • Text — paste or type content directly into the field. The counter reads 0/20000, so that is the ceiling per translation.
  • URL — enter a web address instead of text, and Kagi Translate translates the page content rather than making you copy it in manually.

The placeholder text ("输入网址或一些文字…" / "Enter a URL or some text…") confirms both are accepted in the same field.

Language handling

Two things happen with languages:

  1. Source language is detected automatically. The interface includes a "Detect language" control, so you don't have to state what language your input is in.
  2. You choose the target language. The page shows a language selector with Simplified Chinese (简体中文) as one visible option, alongside a quality setting.

Translation quality levels

Next to the language selector, the interface offers three quality tiers:

Option What it suggests
基本 (Basic) Fastest, lowest-cost style output
标准 (Standard) Balanced default
最佳 (Best) Highest-quality model output

The page does not publish which underlying models map to each tier, so treat these as effort/quality presets rather than named engines.

What you need before starting

  • A free account — the page states "创建免费账号以使用 Translate" (create a free account to use Translate), so translation is gated behind sign-up.
  • Content within the 20,000-character limit if you're pasting text.
  • A reachable URL if you're translating a page.

Practical notes

  • The 20,000-character cap applies to the input field; longer documents need to be split or handled as a URL.
  • Because source detection is automatic, mixed-language input may not behave as expected — if results look off, the detected language is the first thing to check.
  • The pricing page is linked from the interface ("查看方案"), which implies usage terms beyond the free account may exist; check it before relying on high-volume or "Best" tier use.
