What customization options does Monochrome offer?

Updated

Monochrome offers two main customization areas: appearance themes and fonts. You can pick from built-in color schemes, apply community-made themes, build your own custom theme, and choose fonts from presets, Google Fonts, a URL, or your own uploaded file. These options live in Settings under the Appearance section.

Theme options

Monochrome ships with a set of preset color schemes you can switch between:

  • System (follows your device's light/dark setting)
  • Black
  • White
  • Dark
  • Ocean
  • Purple
  • Forest
  • Mocha
  • Machiatto
  • Frappé
  • Latte

Selecting one applies it immediately. If you'd rather match your operating system's light/dark preference automatically, choose System.

Custom themes

Beyond the presets, you can build a Custom Theme. The settings include buttons to Apply, Reset, and Unapply Theme, so you can experiment and revert without losing your starting point.

Community themes

Monochrome also has a Community Themes section with an Open Theme Store button. This lets you browse and apply themes created by other users. Once you apply a community theme, you can unapply it the same way as a custom theme.

Font options

Font customization is handled in the same Appearance area. You can set your font through four input methods:

Method What it does
Preset Choose from built-in fonts
Google Fonts Pick a font hosted by Google Fonts
URL Point to a font file via a web address
Upload Upload your own font file

The default preset is Inter. Other presets shown include Apple Music, IBM Plex Mono, Roboto, Open Sans, Lato, Montserrat, and Poppins.

How to change your theme or font

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to the Appearance section.
  3. For color: pick a preset scheme, or use Custom Theme / Community Themes.
  4. For type: choose a Preset, Google Fonts, URL, or Upload, then apply it.

Changes apply to the interface right away, so you can preview each option before settling on one.

What this means for you

If you just want a quick look change, the preset themes and fonts cover most needs. If you want a specific aesthetic, the custom theme builder and community theme store give you more control. And if you have a font you already use elsewhere, the URL or upload options let you bring it in rather than being limited to the presets.
