What Departments and Faculties Does RUET Have?

Updated

RUET (Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology) organizes its academic departments under four faculties: Electrical & Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Applied Science and Humanities. The first three faculties contain the engineering and planning departments, while the fourth covers the supporting science and humanities subjects. The list below reflects the departments named in the RUET website's navigation menu; for program details, faculty members, and notices, each department has its own page on ruet.ac.bd.

Faculties and Their Departments

Faculty Departments
Faculty of Electrical & Computer Engineering Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE); Computer Science & Engineering (CSE); Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE); Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering (ETE)
Faculty of Civil Engineering Civil Engineering (CE); Architecture (Arch); Urban & Regional Planning (URP); Building Engineering & Construction Management (BECM)
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Mechanical Engineering (ME); Industrial & Production Engineering (IPE); Ceramic & Metallurgical Engineering (CME); Mechatronics Engineering (MTE); Materials Science & Engineering (MSE); Chemical Engineering (ChE)
Faculty of Applied Science and Humanities Chemistry (Chem); Mathematics (Math); Physics (Phy); Humanities (Hum)

Faculty of Electrical & Computer Engineering

This faculty groups the four departments most associated with computing, electronics, and telecommunications. EEE and ECE sit close together in subject matter, while CSE focuses on software and computing systems and ETE on telecommunications. A prospective student choosing within this faculty is effectively choosing between hardware/power (EEE, ECE), software (CSE), and communications (ETE) orientations.

Faculty of Civil Engineering

Beyond Civil Engineering itself, this faculty includes Architecture and Urban & Regional Planning, which are design- and planning-oriented rather than purely structural, plus Building Engineering & Construction Management, which leans toward the management side of construction projects. The mix means the faculty spans both engineering design and the planning/management of built environments.

Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

This is the largest faculty by department count, with six departments. ME and IPE cover core mechanical engineering and production/industrial systems; CME and MSE deal with materials and metallurgy; MTE combines mechanical, electronics, and control; and ChE covers chemical process engineering. Students comparing options here should note that these departments, while grouped together, lead to fairly distinct career directions.

Faculty of Applied Science and Humanities

Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Humanities are the supporting departments. They differ in role from the engineering departments: they provide the foundational science and communication subjects that underpin engineering study rather than functioning as the primary engineering degree tracks. Readers looking for an engineering specialization should look to the first three faculties; readers interested in the science foundation or in humanities teaching at RUET will find those departments here.

Engineering vs. Supporting Departments

A useful distinction when reading the RUET department list is between departments that award engineering degrees and those that support them. The engineering and planning departments (EEE, CSE, ECE, ETE, CE, Arch, URP, BECM, ME, IPE, CME, MTE, MSE, ChE) form the professional core, while Chem, Math, Phy, and Hum provide service courses and foundational instruction. This grouping matters if you are scanning the site for admission information or faculty contacts, since the relevant department page differs depending on which category you need.

Where to Go Next on the RUET Website

The RUET site lists each department in its navigation and provides a "Heads of the Departments" entry under Administration, along with a "Faculty Members" quick-search section. If you want details on a specific department — its programs, faculty, or notices — start from that department's own page rather than the faculty listing. For admission routes, the site separates Undergraduate Admission, Postgraduate Admission, and Admission Schedule, so check the level that applies to you before browsing department pages.
