What Devices and Limits Does SuperBeam Support?

Updated

SuperBeam supports Android devices running Android 2.3.3 or later, and its companion PC application runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. The free Android version places no limit on the number of files you can transfer. The main practical limits are platform-specific: computer transfers and folder-structure preservation require the PRO version ($1.99), and transfer speed depends on your devices and WiFi setup rather than a fixed cap.

Device and platform support

Platform Support status Notes
Android Android 2.3.3 and later Free app, downloadable from Google Play
Windows PC Supported via SuperBeam for PC Sending and receiving files to/from a computer requires PRO
Mac Supported via SuperBeam for PC Same PRO requirement as Windows
Linux Supported via SuperBeam for PC Same PRO requirement as Windows

The Android app is the core of the product. The PC application extends sharing between an Android device and a desktop or laptop, and it is listed as compatible with all three major desktop operating systems.

File and transfer limits

  • Number of files: The free version lets you transfer an unlimited number of files between Android devices. The site's FAQ states there is no limitation on how many files you can send.
  • Folders: Sending entire folders while preserving their hierarchy is a PRO feature. The free version does not include it.
  • Multiple recipients: Sharing files with more than one device at the same time is also PRO-only.
  • File size: The site does not state a maximum file size, so size is bounded in practice by storage space and transfer time rather than a published limit.

What the free version can and cannot do

The free tier covers the core Android-to-Android use case:

  • WiFi Direct transfers at high speed
  • Unlimited file count between Android devices
  • Pairing by QR code or NFC
  • Light and dark color themes
  • No ads

Pairing with a manual sharing key, computer transfers, folder transfers, and multi-device sharing are reserved for PRO. If your workflow is phone-to-phone only, the free version covers the device and file-count questions above without payment.

Speed expectations

SuperBeam does not publish a guaranteed transfer rate. Its own testing describes 20–40 Mbps as optimal in most cases, with some high-end devices reaching around 75 Mbps. If transfers are slower than expected, the site recommends turning off WiFi on both the sender and receiver before starting, which forces direct mode and typically produces much greater speeds.

Quick decision guide

  • Android-to-Android, any number of files, no cost: the free version is sufficient.
  • Need to move files to or from a Windows, Mac, or Linux computer: you need PRO at $1.99.
  • Need to send whole folder structures or share with several devices at once: you need PRO.
  • Running an Android version older than 2.3.3: the app is not supported on that device.
